Job description

Job Responsibilities:
The Director of Compliance is responsible for assisting the Chief Compliance Officer/Deputy Chief Compliance Officer is an individual who has a thorough understanding of products and services provided by the affiliate and all associated requirements for billing the products and services to governmental payers. The position has primary responsibility of conducting audits and overseeing, and interpreting audit results for the affiliate. The Director is also responsible for monitoring new rules and regulations and advising in a timely fashion relevant staff. This position reports to the Johns Hopkins Health System Chief Compliance Officer.
The position independently assesses a variety of complex compliance risk-areas to develop the JHHS Compliance Department's work plan. This position is responsible for independently performing scheduled audits required by the work plan, unplanned investigations and in carrying out these activities independently providing compliance guidance to personnel. This position uses judgment and critical thinking in determining appropriate corrective actions for non-compliance as well as ensuring that corrective action is taken by the affiliate. This position is responsible for monitoring and responding to certain regulatory requests and representing the JHHS Compliance Department on various committees as requested. The position is responsible for communicating audit results to affiliate management and monitoring any necessary systemic changes resulting from those audits.
This position provides regular guidance and advice to affiliate personnel, leadership and Executive Management related to compliance matters. The position conducts independent research in the areas of Medicare and Medicaid and other complex legal authorities pertaining to billing and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include the development of education and training for management and staff regarding federal payor regulatory requirements and other compliance matters based on the incumbent's independent judgment of the affiliate's educational needs.
The position will also manage audits conducted by vendors and payers and provide regular status reports to senior management. Additionally, the position is responsible for reviewing the draft work product of their peers and to mentor and assist in the training and development of the compliance staff.
The Director is responsible for supervising and conducting audits of medical and related billing/reimbursement records in order to evaluate their accuracy and compliance with Health System policies, government regulations and third-party payer contracts. The Director is responsible for preparing written reports summarizing audit findings and, making recommendations for improvement and correction where identified. The Director will also be responsible for identifying compliance risk areas and assisting with the development of and implementation of staff training programs and policies where indicated.
Qualifications:
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Clinical or health care related field. Master's Degree preferred.
  • CPC, CHC, CCS, RHIA or RHIT preferred.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of related healthcare setting experience, with leadership experience in mid to upper-level management.
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of services provided in an academic health system setting preferred.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and managing a project.

Salary Range: $125,000 - $165,000 per year. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
