Job description

At Schaefer Plastics, we manufacture industry-leading solutions and drive responsible practices toward a sustainable future for generations to come. As a family-owned company since 1937, we are deeply committed to delivering exceptional customer care through high-quality, innovative waste and packaging solutions. Our customers and their satisfaction are paramount—we strive to understand their needs and exceed expectations at every turn. We are a global leader in injection molding, producing durable waste and recycling carts while pioneering reusable packaging systems that reduce carbon footprints. Our dynamic and inclusive culture fosters both personal and professional growth, making Schaefer Plastics an ideal place to build a high-impact career.

Position Overview

As a Regional Sales Manager, you will operate as a key driver of growth within your territory, working directly with municipalities and private solid waste haulers. You will be part of a high-performing, consultative sales organization focused on delivering tailored solutions, winning complex opportunities, and strengthening long-term customer partnerships.

This is a field-based role requiring consistent in-person engagement, including travel to customer locations, trade shows, industry conferences, and training sessions.

Essential Functions

  • Build, maintain, and expand strong relationships with existing clients and key prospects
  • Drive new business through proactive prospecting, including face-to-face cold calls and strategic outreach
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer operations to position tailored solutions effectively
  • Manage full sales cycle, including opportunity development, proposal creation, and deal execution
  • Create, maintain, and execute a territory sales plan aligned with company objectives
  • Accurately forecast pipeline activity and report progress, risks, and competitive insights to leadership
  • Utilize Salesforce (CRM) to manage opportunities, track activity, and maintain data integrity
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop pricing, quotations, and bid responses
  • Prepare and deliver compelling presentations, product demonstrations, and solution-based proposals
  • Lead and support RFP and bid processes with cross-functional teams
  • Maintain strong awareness of competitor products, positioning, and market activity
  • Represent Schaefer Plastics at trade shows, industry events, and association meetings
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development initiatives
  • Travel as required by car and/or air to effectively manage territory

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience within a structured, professional sales environment
  • Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • Strong ability to independently manage territory, pipeline, and daily sales activities
  • Proficiency in written communication, including proposals, presentations, and client correspondence
  • Demonstrated forecasting accuracy and pipeline management discipline
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Highly driven, self-motivated, and responsive with strong follow-up execution
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to balance short- and long-term objectives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for proposals, budgets, and project documentation
  • Ability to effectively present solutions in both small and mid-sized group settings
  • Experience prospecting, developing, and closing business using consultative and relationship-based sales approaches
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass company and customer-required background checks
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions
  • This is a remote, territory-based position. Candidates may reside anywhere within the assigned territory (Southeast - FL, TN, MS, AL, AR). The location shown in this posting represents one of the primary markets within the territory and is not a required office location.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of municipal budget cycles and public-sector procurement processes
  • Experience within the waste, recycling, or environmental services industry
  • Prior sales experience within the Midwest territory
  • Experience selling complex products or solutions with longer sales cycles
  • Experience working with multi-level stakeholders, committees, and decision-making groups
  • Background in technology or solution-based sales environments

This role is designed for a motivated, results-driven sales professional who thrives in a competitive environment, takes ownership of their territory, and is committed to delivering measurable results.
