Job description

Principal Technical Program Manager (Remote)
Department: Tech Dev
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Denton, Texas
Description
Be a Part of our Team!
Join a working team that is dedicated to the mission of the work we do!
Teaching Strategies is an innovative edtech organization focused on connecting teachers, children, and
families. As front runners in the early childhood education market, we build dynamic, top-quality digital
products that integrate all of the essential elements of a high-quality solution: curriculum, assessment,
professional development, and family engagement. We are building a team of results-oriented individuals
who will thrive in a collaborative, work-hard/play-hard culture. We pride ourselves on the impact we have
on the early childhood field through supporting teachers who are doing the most important work there is,
teaching children to become creative, confident thinkers.
Position Overview
As Principal Technical Program Manager, you will serve as the operational leader connecting Product and Engineering, ensuring our highest-priority initiatives execute predictably while continuously improving how our organization delivers software.
This role is expected to improve how our organization delivers software by introducing scalable operational mechanisms, not simply coordinate existing processes.
What Success Looks Like
The ideal candidate has previously operated in a high-performing Product and Engineering organization and brings proven patterns to:
  • Align Product and Engineering around strategic priorities and delivery outcomes
  • Improve organizational execution through scalable operational mechanisms
  • Influence engineering and product leaders without direct authority
  • Communicate effectively with executive stakeholders
  • Introduce AI-enabled practices that improve engineering productivity and software delivery

Specific Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Organizational Leadership
    • Improve collaboration and execution across Product and Engineering for complex, cross-team initiatives
    • Operate as an organizational leader for technical delivery
    • Influence leaders without direct authority
    • Create clarity amid organizational ambiguity
  • AI & Operational Innovation
    • Implement AI-enabled improvements to SDLC or engineering operations
    • Leverage AI to improve software delivery, engineering workflows, planning, reporting, decision-making, and product development processes
  • Program Leadership
    • Own end-to-end delivery for large, cross-team initiatives, ensuring alignment from planning through release
    • Manage cross-team dependencies, identify execution risks early, and drive mitigation plans
  • Executive Communication
    • Deliver concise executive updates focused on decisions, tradeoffs, and business impact
    • Provide recommendations and not just status reports
  • Technical Partnership
    • Engage with engineering teams to understand system architecture, constraints, and tradeoffs and challenge technical assumptions while respecting engineering ownership
    • Translate technical complexity into clear insights for stakeholders and leadership
  • Delivery Excellence
    • Escalate issues at the appropriate time with context and actionable recommendations
    • Support planning processes including roadmap alignment and execution planning
    • Identify gaps in execution and drive improvements in delivery processes

Qualifications:
  • Experience operating within high-performing engineering organizations delivering software at scale (for example Amazon, Microsoft, Google, GitHub, Stripe, Intuit, or similar organizations)
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Identify organizational problems, not just program problems
    • Design mechanisms that improve execution at scale
    • Influence engineering managers, product leaders, and executives without direct authority
  • 10+ years of experience in Technical Program Management, Engineering Program Management, or similar roles
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, cross-team technical programs (5+ teams)
  • Strong technical background (engineering, architecture, or equivalent experience)
  • Deep understanding of software development lifecycle, system design, and architecture concepts
  • Proven ability to manage dependencies, risks, and complex delivery environments
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams
