Job description

Senior Project Manager: Real Estate, Design and Construction

Matter Real Estate is a growing, entrepreneurial real estate advisory and project management firm that works in Tennessee, Georgia, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

We are on a mission to build a multi-disciplinary team of exceptional professionalsโ€”including architects, engineers, and construction managersโ€”to help our clients execute complex real estate projects. We specialize in assisting mission-oriented organizations and property owners to successfully plan and build space that is highly functional and economical.

We believe that real estate is not just in the pro forma but exists as a place and thing-therefore, having a passion for design and construction is essential to succeed at our firm. We are seeking a Senior Project Manager with a strong track record of execution, an ownership mindset, and the ability to independently drive complex projects forward. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where they are expected to take initiative and lead.

Required Education and Experience

This position requires a bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management and at least five years (preferably five to ten years) of related work experience in Tennessee or the broader Southeast. Previous work experience should demonstrate your ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills and mastery of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

The role is based in Tennessee and includes approximately 10% travel within the Southeast to visit project sites and meet with clients, consultants, and stakeholders.

We welcome candidates from the design and construction industries looking to broaden their real estate expertise. You will be asked to wear many hats and will gain exposure to multiple aspects of real estate.

Summary of Responsibilities

The Senior Project Manager will work closely with the firmโ€™s Principal and broader team on a diverse portfolio of real estate projects and transactions across Tennessee, Georgia, and the Southeast. This role also presents a unique entrepreneurial opportunity to help expand and strengthen the firmโ€™s presence throughout Tennessee and the broader Southeast region. The position requires a high degree of ownership, leadership, and accountability.

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for independently managing projects from early-stage feasibility through design, construction, and close-out. Responsibilities include leading project execution, managing design and construction processes, serving as a primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, overseeing financial analyses and project budgets, and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and successfully.

Detailed Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work in a collaborative, fast-paced team environment and is expected to take ownership of projects and key workstreams. While experience across all areas is not required, the ideal candidate brings strong foundational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to proactively solve problems and drive outcomes.

As the Senior Project Manager builds a track record of success, responsibilities will expand to include greater autonomy and leadership of larger and more complex projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining clear, consistent, and professional communication
  • Leading feasibility analyses and synthesizing findings into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Forming and managing project teams, ensuring alignment across all disciplines
  • Managing site searches to identify leasing and acquisition opportunities, including evaluating options and coordinating next steps
  • Supporting and coordinating the financing process for selected properties
  • Collaborating closely with architects, engineers, and consultants to advance pre-development and design efforts
  • Managing project schedules, budgets, and deliverables with a strong focus on accountability and execution
  • Overseeing construction activities, including site visits, coordination meetings, and quality control
  • Driving project momentum through proactive problem-solving, follow-up, and decision-making
  • Ensuring successful project close-out, including final documentation and coordination
Additional Information
  • Base salary: $100,000 - $125,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
  • Quarterly and annual bonuses totaling up to 25% of base salary
  • Benefits:
  • Dental insurance
  • Health insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • One-on-one professional development coaching and ongoing mentorship

We look forward to hearing from you.
