Job description

Position Summary

The RBT is responsible for providing direct care to residents while serving as the shift lead in an Adult Residential Facility (ARF). This role supports the Administrator and Assistant Administrator in ensuring high-quality, person-centered services for individuals with developmental disabilities and complex behavioral and/or medical needs.

The RBT ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and standards set forth by the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Title 17, and the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD), including Title 22 requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Direct Care & Resident Support

  • Provide hands-on support with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal care, hygiene, and mobility
  • Implement Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and behavior intervention plans
  • Support residents with complex behavioral and/or medical needs in a structured, therapeutic environment
  • Utilize approved de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques

Shift Leadership

  • Act as the RBT on assigned shifts, ensuring appropriate coverage and task completion
  • Provide guidance and direction to direct support staff during the shift
  • Ensure continuity of care through effective shift-to-shift communication
  • Report concerns, incidents, and updates to management in a timely manner

Behavioral & Clinical Support

  • Implement behavior support plans under supervision of clinical team (BCBA, clinicians, nursing staff)
  • Accurately track and document behaviors, interventions, and outcomes
  • Support implementation of restrictive interventions in accordance with approved protocols (if applicable)

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete accurate and timely documentation, including daily notes, data collection, and incident reports
  • Ensure documentation meets DDS and CCLD standards and is audit-ready
  • Follow all health, safety, and infection control protocols

Training & Staff Support

  • Assist with training and mentoring new and existing staff
  • Reinforce proper procedures, documentation practices, and regulatory compliance
  • Support adherence to required certifications (e.g., CPI/Pro-ACT, medication administration)

Health & Safety

  • Monitor residents’ physical and emotional well-being
  • Ensure a safe and clean home environment at all times
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established protocols
 Qualifications
  • MUST have and maintain ARF certification during employment period.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in residential care, preferably in a high-acuity or Level 6/7 setting
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors
  • Knowledge of Title 17 and Title 22 regulations (preferred)
  • Valid certifications as required (First Aid/CPR, CPI/Pro-ACT, medication training)
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet licensing requirements
