Senior Mechanical Engineer
The Position
The Senior Mechanical Engineer for Above Group performs and provides engineering services for design and construction of projects along with delegating tasks to complete the designs of each project for the Firm. The Senior Mechanical Engineer shall possess a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, from an ABET accredited institution. This individual shall directly contribute to the Firm and its success through the application of knowledge and technical experience to effectively produce a quality design and ultimate product to the customer. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is also responsible for contributing to the growth of the team by leading and mentoring subordinate staff in expanding their capabilities and contributions.
General Duties
  • Responsible for the technical quality of the design of all projects to which they are assigned.
  • Responsible for the on-time delivery of all deliverables, which meet AG submission requirements for all projects to which they are assigned. This includes completion of QA/QC process.
  • Delegate tasks and assignments across projects to meet deadlines and coordinate staffing efficiently. This will be done using AG's planning system, Team Gantt. Coordinate design elements with other disciplines.
  • Facilitate and engage with new clients in support of business development activities, as requested.
  • Interface with clients to ensure their needs and requirements for projects are met.
  • Review shop drawing submittals and ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Perform site investigations to ensure the project is being executed to proper standard and expectations of the company and clients' needs and desires.
  • Ensure compliance and safety standards are met.
  • Be able to resolve problems utilizing engineering principles.
  • Provide mentorship towards new onboarding designers and jr. engineers.
  • Meet with respective co-workers weekly, bi-weekly and monthly to stay up to date on project changes and requests.
  • Provide a clear line of communication across projects and engineering departments.
  • Maintain proper documentation of project information using Newforma Konekt.
  • Conduct peer review and editing on projects for proper approval, as needed.
  • Ensure the submission of timesheets for employees under your supervision.
  • Contribute to the development of company-wide standards and processes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of codes, standards and local regulations
  • Collaborate with marketing department for proper production of projects.
  • Metrics for the team include, but are not limited to: utilization rate, QA/QC completion
  • Conduct site analysis surveys.
  • See projects through from contract and proposals to end results.
  • Manage department workload prioritization.
  • Implement and design systems that meet the standards of clients contracted through Above Group.
  • Attend meetings with corresponding departments that are integral to current and ongoing projects.
  • Provide life safety analysis and review of design submittals.
  • Provides supervision to Staff Engineers, Engineers, and Designers assigned to their team (1-3 direct reports + 1-4 indirect reports).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must display high levels of confidentiality, integrity and dependability.
  • Proficient knowledge of computers, Microsoft Suite, i.e., Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Proficient knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, and eQuest.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management.
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Uses excellent writing skills to author basis of design (BOD) narratives, design criteria documents, Engineering Reports, edit design specifications; respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) incorporating information from project documents, specifications, shop drawings and design criteria; and prepare meeting notes.
  • Knowledge of functionality of 3D imaging cameras.
  • Knowledgeable of engineering concepts.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work independently/self-motivated, as well as in a collaborative team setting, highly organized, and detailed-oriented.
  • Strong project management, strategic planning and problem-solving skills, and able to multi-task.
  • Comfortable with traveling (i.e., flights, car services, hotels), up to 20%.
  • Strong time management with the ability to be flexible with schedules and duties.
  • Scheduling and coordination of proper staffing of multiple projects.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion with respect to important matters.

Minimum Requirements
The Senior Mechanical Engineer shall meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • LEED BD+C Certification, preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare engineering projects, preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 10 years in engineering and project management experience working for an MEP Engineering Firm or an AE Firm; or equivalent combination of education and compliance experience, preferred.
  • PMP license, preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License.
  • Current/Active NCEES registration in good standing.
  • OSHA Training, preferred.
  • Excellent Communication skills, both oral and written.
  • This is a remote position. Local candidates will be given the option to work in the office or hybrid.
