Transportation Project Manager

We have a career opportunity for a civil/highway engineer with a track record of successful MassDOT project experience. Our Boston office specializes in roadway and bridges, traffic engineering, water and wastewater services and public involvement and provide exceptional services to MassDOT as well as several municipal local agencies. This person will play a key role in the growth of our MA operations and must be comfortable leading business development efforts as well as executing project work.

Location

This position will have a hybrid work schedule and, when in the office, will work from our Boston office.

Key Projects Driving Infrastructure Innovation

Our Boston Civil Group is proud to lead and support transformative transportation and infrastructure projects across the region, including:

  • Reid Overpass / Memorial Drive Improvements – Cambridge, MA – Leading alternatives analysis and preliminary design efforts for a major urban transportation project focused on roadway reconstruction, multimodal improvements, bridge coordination, drainage, public engagement, and community connectivity.
  • MassDOT Design-Build Projects – Currently serving as Lead Engineer and Project Manager on multiple major MassDOT Design-Build assignments, including:
    • Supporting the Skanska team on a Bridge Bundle Project involving roadway reconstruction, utility coordination, traffic management, and temporary signal accommodations.
    • Serving as Lead Engineer for Northern Construction on the Wareham/Marion Bridge Replacement Project, overseeing roadway design coordination, construction staging, drainage, and multidisciplinary project support services.
  • Complete Streets and Corridor Improvement Projects – Delivering roadway reconstruction, pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, utility coordination, drainage improvements, traffic operations, and multimodal enhancements for municipalities and agencies throughout Massachusetts and New England.
  • MassDOT and Municipal On-Call Contracts – Providing civil engineering, transportation planning, roadway design, utility coordination, permitting support, and project management services for a diverse range of transportation initiatives statewide.

Additional responsibilities
  • Provide direct supervision and overall leadership for assigned projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and client needs
  • Assume ownership of project financials, optimizing resource allocation and budget management to maximize profitability and client satisfaction
  • Develop project scope, schedule, and budget, integrating them into work plans to streamline project execution and enhance efficiency
  • Identify necessary resources and effectively delegate staff duties and responsibilities, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment
  • Resolve scope, schedule, and budget discrepancies with Group Manager and client, maintaining positive relationships and enhancing client satisfaction
  • Check and sign off on deliverables, ensuring completeness and adherence to quality standards, thus enhancing project outcomes and client trust
  • Ensure compliance with project and company safety guidelines, mitigating risks and safeguarding project integrity and reputation
  • Track lessons learned and share insights with team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Assist with Professional Development Plans for staff, nurturing talent and fostering a high-performance team culture
  • Contribute to proposal development, leveraging project successes to secure new opportunities and drive company growth
What You Will Need
  • BSCE or related discipline
  • Registered Massachusetts Professional Engineer
  • Minimum of 10 years of design experience including managing projects
  • Experience working on MassDOT projects
  • Seller/Doer mentality
  • A track record of adhering to design budgets and project schedules
  • Excellent communication and client relation skills

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act . The final agreed-upon compensation is based on numerous factors, including but not limited to individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and geographic location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary, overtime, and bonuses.
