Manager Project Manager information

What does a project manager do?

A Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and meet the required quality standards. They coordinate the efforts of team members, manage resources, and communicate with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Project Managers also identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues, and ensure that project objectives are achieved according to the defined scope.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills, often supported by a bachelor’s degree and experience in project management. Familiarity with project management software (like Microsoft Project, Asana, or Jira) and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are commonly expected. Outstanding communication, negotiation, and adaptability set exceptional project managers apart. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering projects on time, within scope, and fostering effective teamwork.

What are some common challenges faced by project managers in balancing leadership and project delivery responsibilities?

Manager Project Managers often juggle the dual responsibilities of overseeing a team of project managers while also ensuring successful delivery of complex projects. A common challenge is allocating sufficient time to support team development and mentorship without compromising project deadlines or quality. Additionally, they must ensure clear communication across multiple stakeholders and resolve resource conflicts proactively. Balancing strategic oversight with hands-on project problem-solving is key, and effective delegation and time management are essential to thrive in this role.

Job description

Project Manager / Estimator - Glazing Construction

Palmetto Glass, Inc. - Florence, SC

Are you an organized, mechanically minded person who likes solving problems and seeing a job through from start to finish?

Palmetto Glass, Inc. is looking for a Project Manager / Estimator to join our team.

We are a locally owned and operated glazing contractor that has been serving the Florence area for 59 years. We specialize in commercial and residential glass, storefronts, shower enclosures, mirrors and related glazing work.

This is an important position within our company. The right person will help take projects from the initial estimate through completion and will work closely with customers, contractors, suppliers and our installation crews.

What You'll Do

  • Review plans, specifications and job requirements

  • Visit jobsites and field-measure projects

  • Prepare material and labor estimates

  • Prepare and submit bids and proposals

  • Communicate with general contractors, customers and suppliers

  • Order and coordinate materials

  • Schedule and coordinate installation crews

  • Track project progress, costs and deadlines

  • Identify potential problems before they become expensive problems

  • Help resolve field issues and change orders

  • Review completed work and assist with project closeout

  • Maintain accurate project records

  • Communicate daily with our office, shop and field crews

The Person We're Looking For

  • Organized and able to manage multiple projects at once

  • Detail-oriented and good with numbers

  • Comfortable reading plans and construction documents

  • A good communicator who can work with customers and contractors

  • Comfortable using computers and learning estimating/project-management software

  • Able to make decisions and solve problems without needing constant supervision

  • Willing to visit jobsites and work in the field when necessary

  • Professional, dependable and accountable

  • Interested in learning the glazing business

Experience

Previous experience in glazing, construction, estimating, project management, architectural products, building materials or a related trade is strongly preferred.

We are also willing to consider someone with strong construction experience and the right attitude who has not previously worked as a glazing estimator. We can teach you the glass business. We need someone who can learn, stay organized and take ownership of their work.

A college degree is not necessarily required. Experience, ability and work ethic matter more to us than a piece of paper.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Basic computer skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to read construction plans or willingness to learn

  • Must be able to pass a drug test

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications

  • Health insurance

  • 401(k)

  • Paid vacation

  • Paid holidays

  • Paid sick leave

  • Stable, year-round employment

  • Training and opportunity for advancement

  • A locally owned company with 59 years of experience

  • A family-oriented work environment where your work actually matters

Why Palmetto Glass?

We're not a huge corporation where you're just another employee number.

We're a long-established, locally owned company where the people you work with know your name and where good work is noticed.

If you're looking for an opportunity to take ownership of projects, develop your skills and become an important part of a successful local company, we'd like to talk with you.
