What does a project manager do?

A Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and meet the required quality standards. They coordinate the efforts of team members, manage resources, and communicate with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Project Managers also identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues, and ensure that project objectives are achieved according to the defined scope.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills, often supported by a bachelor’s degree and experience in project management. Familiarity with project management software (like Microsoft Project, Asana, or Jira) and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are commonly expected. Outstanding communication, negotiation, and adaptability set exceptional project managers apart. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering projects on time, within scope, and fostering effective teamwork.

What are some common challenges faced by project managers in balancing leadership and project delivery responsibilities?

Manager Project Managers often juggle the dual responsibilities of overseeing a team of project managers while also ensuring successful delivery of complex projects. A common challenge is allocating sufficient time to support team development and mentorship without compromising project deadlines or quality. Additionally, they must ensure clear communication across multiple stakeholders and resolve resource conflicts proactively. Balancing strategic oversight with hands-on project problem-solving is key, and effective delegation and time management are essential to thrive in this role.

Our client's confidence in us is centered on exceptionally skilled, high-energy talent working with the support of the full Sand Cherry team. Finding the right match for this role is a critical aspect of continuing that success.
Overview
The Project Manager will support the Mobile Product team in planning and delivering strategic initiatives, product enhancements, and technology projects that improve customer experience and drive business results. This role will manage multiple projects and cross-functional workstreams, coordinating with Product, Technology, Engineering, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery. This is a hybrid role that requires 4 days on-site in Denver, CO. All qualified candidates MUST reside in the Denver area and be authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship or visa transfers. Please note that we do not work C2C.
Responsibilities
• Lead the planning and execution of mobile products, technology, and strategic initiatives from project initiation through implementation and post-launch support.
• Develop and manage project plans, scope, timelines, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, resources, and success criteria.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams across Product, Technology, Engineering, and business functions to drive alignment and successful project delivery.
• Manage multiple projects and workstreams, prioritizing competing demands and adapting to changing business priorities.
• Partner with Product Management to identify customer needs, gather requirements, define user stories and acceptance criteria, and translate business requirements into actionable deliverables.
• Manage projects throughout the software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, testing, UAT, implementation, and post-launch activities.
• Facilitate project meetings, Agile ceremonies, stakeholder discussions, and status reviews; track decisions, action items, risks, issues, and next steps.
• Proactively identify and manage project risks, issues, dependencies, roadblocks, and scope changes; develop mitigation plans and escalate as appropriate.
• Provide clear, executive-ready project updates, presentations, dashboards, and reports highlighting progress, risks, decisions, and key milestones.
• Analyze project and business data, market trends, customer insights, and competitive developments to identify risks, opportunities, and actionable recommendations.
• Drive continuous improvement of project management processes, communication, reporting, and workflows while ensuring deliverables are accurate, high quality, and aligned with customer and business objectives.
• Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to improve project planning, analysis, reporting, communication, and overall team effectiveness.
Requirements
• 1-3 years of experience in project management, business analysis, product management, strategy, consulting, technology, or a related field.
• Experience managing technology, telecom, mobile, digital, or product-related projects in complex, cross-functional environments.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies and familiarity with the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
• Experience partnering with Product, Engineering, Technology, and business teams to define requirements and deliver solutions from planning through implementation and post-launch.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, or similar project management tools; Agile ceremony facilitation experience preferred.
• Strong project planning, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and risk management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, dependencies, and deliverables.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build alignment and present complex information clearly to teams and senior leadership.
• Strong business acumen, attention to detail, accountability, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and leading AI tools; experience with mobile products, wireless services, broadband, telecommunications, or digital customer experiences preferred.
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Communications, Marketing, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), or other project management certification is preferred.
