Sr. Cost Control Specialist
Position Overview

The Sr. Cost Control Specialist is a senior-level member of the Project Controls team responsible for cost engineering, forecasting, reporting, labor planning, project performance analysis, and operational decision support across multiple commercial construction projects.

This role serves as a key partner to Operations, Project Management, Accounting, Estimating, and Executive Leadership by providing the reporting, analysis, and controls necessary to drive successful project outcomes. The position plays a critical role in developing and improving project controls systems, processes, dashboards, and forecasting capabilities as CP Build continues to expand its Project Controls department.

Reporting directly to the Director of Project Controls, the Sr. Cost Control Specialist will help ensure cost, labor, schedule, and production performance are accurately measured, forecasted, and communicated throughout the project lifecycle.

This is a full-time office-based position located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Key ResponsibilitiesCost Controls amp; Financial Performance
  • Own cost management workflows within Oracle Primavera Unifier, including budget reviews, purchase orders, commitments, and change orders
  • Audit and process change order workflows, validating cost code accuracy and ensuring project budgets and cost sheets remain accurate
  • Monitor project cost performance across multiple active projects simultaneously
  • Review project budgets, committed costs, actual costs, forecasts, and change orders to identify risks and opportunities
  • Perform project cost tracking, cost allocation reviews, and budget reconciliations across multiple systems
  • Partner with Accounting to improve job cost controls and ensure costs are properly coded and reported
Forecasting amp; Planning
  • Develop and maintain project cost forecasts throughout the project lifecycle
  • Assist with labor forecasting and workforce planning initiatives
  • Analyze project productivity trends and provide forecasts related to project performance
  • Support preconstruction planning efforts through cost and resource analysis
  • Monitor forecast accuracy and identify emerging risks before they impact project performance
Reporting amp; Analytics
  • Develop dashboards, KPIs, scorecards, and executive reporting tools that support operational and financial decision-making
  • Deliver project cost, labor, production, and performance reporting to project teams and leadership
  • Analyze trends and provide recommendations that improve project execution and business performance
  • Support development and continuous improvement of project controls reporting systems
Process Improvement amp; Leadership Support
  • Partner with Operations, Project Management, Estimating, Accounting, and Executive Leadership to improve visibility into project performance
  • Assist in developing standardized project controls processes, reporting structures, and forecasting methodologies
  • Support implementation and optimization of project controls technologies and workflows
  • Identify opportunities to improve data accuracy, reporting efficiency, and operational performance
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for project cost controls and forecasting processes
QualificationsRequired
  • 5+ years of experience in project controls, cost engineering, construction finance, construction accounting, cost controls, or related construction operations roles
  • Experience working within a commercial construction environment
  • Strong understanding of construction budgets, cost forecasting, and change management processes
  • Experience monitoring project costs across multiple active construction projects simultaneously
  • Extensive experience with project cost tracking, cost allocation, budget monitoring, and change order management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across operations, accounting, project management, and executive leadership teams
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Preferred
  • Oracle Primavera Unifier experience strongly preferred
  • Primavera P6 experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • Experience supporting labor forecasting and workforce planning initiatives
  • Experience developing executive dashboards, KPIs, and reporting tools
  • Experience implementing or improving project controls processes
  • Experience supporting commercial construction projects exceeding $10 million
