Recent growth of the Risk Practice has created an immediate need for an individual to join our team in the role of Principal - Risk Management within the Mississauga Office. We are searching for senior level practitioner, who brings +15 years of combined experience in project management, decision analysis, risk management, project controls on mega and large projects in the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Engagement Manager and functionally to the Regional Manager - Risk, the incumbent in this role will provide clients and engagement teams with expert and unbiased support in all aspects related to risk management. This role is pivotal in ensuring that risk management is a value-add process that supports decisions and the achievement of clients and Hatch’s objectives.

This role will also assist the Global Director, Risk in furthering and growing the global Risk Practice and assist with the efforts to enhance the profile and effectiveness of the Risk function within Hatch and within the mining, metals and infrastructure sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide risk inputs to proposals, tailoring risk management activities and level of effort to the proposal scope and client’s requirements;
  • Develop, implement and coordinate integrated and sustainable risk management frameworks for projects and clients; facilitate project qualitative risk assessments and quantitative cost and schedule risk analysis, decision analysis, value improvement workshops
  • Act as a strategic adviser on projects, providing guidance and insights that support risk-based decisions and the achievement of objectives; assess the effectiveness of project risk management processes and advise stakeholders on how to enhance risk management effectiveness
  • Assist the Global Director, Risk with the development of risk management procedures and functional guides; business development and client engagement; adoption of innovative risk management processes and tools (AI-based); development of a mature risk culture on projects and within Hatch; development of risk and decision training for stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external clients; establish trust, credibility and respect.
  • Contribute to fostering a knowledge-sharing culture by actively participating in the risk and decision knowledge networks and collaborative forums

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Post-secondary engineering or business degree from a recognized university. A professional risk, project management or decision analysis designation is desirable (i.e., CRM, PMI-RMP, GARP, PMP, AACE etc.,); MBA, PhD is nice to have
  • Minimum 15 years of combined experience in a risk management, project management, decision analysis, project controls role, workshop facilitation involving large groups of people.
  • Expert knowledge in the application of International Risk Management Standards, i.e. ISO 31000, ISO 31010, PRAM, PMI and industry best practices (i.e., AACE, IPA, etc)
  • Expert knowledge in decision analysis, strategic planning, risk management process; know how to adapt these processes to clients and projects needs; understand how risk creates value and supports decisions.
  • Good understanding of engineering, project delivery and contracting strategies such as FEL, ECP, EPCM, collaborative contracting (i.e. alliance)
  • Ability to educate stakeholders in the value of risk management and how it supports decisions and objectives
  • Good understanding of and experience with project management, cost estimating and project scheduling principles, tools and techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of quantitative models of cost and schedule, including quantitative risk analysis tools (i.e. @Risk, Safran), modern risk management systems/software. (i.e. Predict!, CURA, ARM, etc)
  • Ability to rely on data analytics to identify patterns and predict potential risks; manage and interpret large datasets to inform risk assessments and decision-making
  • Constantly seek innovative methodologies and tools to manage and mitigate risks.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills in English. Similar skills in a second language such as French, Spanish, Portuguese or Chinese are desirable
  • Ability to oversee the risk management programs of concurrent multiple projects.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities effectively - routine requirement to work to deadlines imposed by client which might require completion of unplanned risk management activities in a short time frame.
  • Must be a self-starter and problem solver, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to travel to other Hatch offices or project sites as required, sometimes extensively and on a relatively short notice

Base salary range: $130,000 - $180,000
