About this Role

The Project Accounting Manager is responsible for the execution, coordination, and oversight of project-level accounting activities within the region. This role bridges project-level accounting operations and regional financial management, serving as the primary liaison between Project Managers, project controls personnel, and regional finance leadership. The Project Accounting Manager ensures compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and generally accepted accounting principles while delivering accurate and timely financial reporting. This position reports directly to the Regional Controller.

What You'll Do

Project Accounting & Controls

  • Oversee and perform specialized project accounting functions including revenue recognition using percentage of completion accounting, budget tracking, invoicing, payables, receivables, and project closeout
  • Review and analyze project financial data to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with contractual requirements
  • Coordinate project setup and closeout activities, including fee and budget entry, contract documentation, and administration
  • Provide detailed analysis and reporting on project status within an established system of project controls, including work breakdown structure (WBS), schedule, and budget/cost
  • Utilize earned value management (EVM) techniques to understand relationships between planned work, executed work, and actual costs
  • Analyze schedule logic and conduct critical-path reviews, including what-if scenario analysis
  • Prepare, validate, and maintain cost estimates, baseline budgets, work package agreements, and monthly cost variance reports

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Assist in monthly financial reporting and analysis, including project reviews and contributions to regional consolidated deliverables
  • Advise regional and project management on financial performance of projects, identifying risks and opportunities
  • Audit compliance with contractual requirements, including invoicing and reporting format, revenue and cash projections, and financial quality control
  • Support regional resource pool cost analysis, overhead tracking, and annual budget/forecast activities

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Serve as the centralized point of contact for internal and external business partners on project accounting matters
  • Assist Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers daily with project accounting-related inquiries and financial issues resolution
  • Team with technical staff, project leads, and managers to make recommendations that influence key decisions within project controls scope
  • Support the Regional Controller and regional leadership with special projects and financial analysis as needed
  • Interface with external auditors and corporate reporting groups for projects within the region
  • Evaluate contract commercial and financial terms in support of project bid activities

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to internal standards, policies, procedures, and SOX compliance requirements
  • Utilize information management, access controls management, configuration management, and risk management processes to support project teams
  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience within the Accounting/Finance function
  • Minimum of 2 years of project accounting experience
  • Experience working within an ERP system
  • CPA certification preferred
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or professional accounting preferred
  • 4+ years of project accounting experience, preferably in engineering, construction, or energy sectors
  • Experience working within JD Edwards (JDE)
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), percentage of completion accounting, and SOX compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting reporting systems and ERP platforms
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
  • Strong analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Self-starter who can work independently while supporting the needs of the team
  • Effective time management skills with ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to produce quality deliverables within tight timeframes
  • Travel - Up to 20%, or as project needs require
