Job description

The Problems You'll Solve

At Carta, our employees set out on a mission to unlock the power of participation in the private markets. We believe that the problems we solve today unlock the opportunities of tomorrow. As a Business Development Manager, Private Equity Partners:

You will expand Carta's distribution and market share by helping us deepen working relationships with key channel partners-and developing relationships with new ones. You will represent Carta as a valuable contributor to the Private Funds ecosystem, helping us to drive Private Equity and Private Credit fund penetration.

  • Create champions for Carta's fund administration products (fund formation, SPV formation, valuations, KYC / AML, and portfolio insights) for private equity and private credit funds within the investment management ecosystem by partnering with, developing scalable strategies for, and engaging with partners that support upmarket and mid-market private funds
  • These partners include law firms, audit/accounting firms, consultants, placement agents, compliance firms, industry groups, investment platforms, wealth managers, among others.
  • Work cross-functionally with Product, Delivery, Engineering, Implementations, Support, Sales, and Marketing to collect feedback from the industry, relay internally, and drive cross-functional conversations and roadmap for a strategy on deepening our mutual client penetration with preferred partners
  • Develop and execute strategies to convert partners where Carta does not have deep relationships into preferred partners
  • Coordinate and work alongside our Sales team to activate mutual books of business with partners
  • Lead discovery on additional paths for Carta to add value to our partners to drive new business to Carta
  • Drive non-linear referral motions with these partners to reliably drive a 50%+ increase in referrals
  • Create awareness of Carta's fund and investor tools for private equity and private credit funds, including identifying and attending conferences and other industry events
  • Represent Carta in the field, meeting with current and prospective partners and attending industry events on Carta's behalf (up to 25% travel)
The Team You'll Work With

You'll be joining our Private Funds sales team. The Business Development Manager, Private Funds Partners  will represent Carta in-market and advance the company's efforts to grow its network, deepen existing relationships, and develop additional business opportunities for upmarket private funds. The Business Development role works cross-functionally to drive ecosystem partnerships to accelerate our growing business. Ideal candidates will be energized by building and managing impactful external relationships, driving cross-functional collaboration, digging into data, finding scalable and repeatable best practices, constructing strategic communications,  helping to change practices, and creating more owners across a rapidly evolving industry.

About You

You enjoy building lasting, productive relationships. You are curious and you're driven to key in on relationships and strategies that benefit all sides. You dig in to find ways to work with others. You are data-informed. You are empathetic with respect to the needs of our ecosystem partners. You have a strong moral compass. You are motivated by making a material impact on our business. You are energized by sharing your learnings with others. You roll up your sleeves to partner with colleagues from across the company to explore what's possible and drive results.

Qualifications

  • An outgoing, natural networker with experience in building and maintaining relationships
  • Knowledge of Private Equity and Private Credit funds and the broader industry
  • Familiarity with how partners support private funds
  • Strong communication, presentation, and networking skills, with experience attending industry events

Nice-to-Have

  • Relevant network of contacts within the community, specifically encompassing upmarket private equity funds and private credit funds, and the service providers that support them
  • Prior experience building relationships or servicing funds as an industry partner supporting VC or private equity clients
  • Prior experience managing relationships with high-profile ecosystem partners including investment funds, consultants, compliance providers, industry groups, investment platforms, wealth managers or other technology companies
  • Understanding of fund formation, regulations that apply to funds, fund administration, fundraising, or valuation services.
