Job description

The Opportunity

The Ottawa Senators are seeking an energetic, hard-working professional to join our team as the Manager, Operations. This is an excellent opportunity to join an NHL franchise at a Managerial level which will allow the candidate to become fully engaged in the business of a major league sports team.       


Reporting to the Director, Operations, the Manager, Operations of Canadian Tire Centre (“CTC”) is responsible for maintaining all operational aspects of the building and the building grounds, through the efficient management of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Ongoing

  • Plan and direct conversion and game day team members on a daily basis, and event basis
  • Help coordinate setup requirements and technical requirements for events with appropriate team members and lessees
  • Participate on committees to assist with event layouts, and other special requirements 
  • Responsible for ensuring that the assembly and disassembly of the arena bowl for events are properly executed
  • Ensure the interior and exterior of the CTC facility are properly maintained on a continuous proactive basis 
  • Responsible for reviewing all building work orders and ensuring repairs are scheduled accordingly 
  • Ensure all part-time timecards, and payroll registers for conversion and custodial team members are verified and authorized
  • Provide leadership and direct supervisors and staff, ensuring all members are properly trained for their position
  • Support on going internal projects, including large scale CapEx projects 
  • Ensure CTC is in compliance with Health and Safety Regulations, and may act as a member of the OH&S committee
  • Oversee all NHL game requirements and make sure all duties and responsibilities are completed by our Game Day staff
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory of equipment, furniture, and supplies
  • Assist event promoters with requests, and provide excellent customer service
  • Responsible for ensuring that the conversion are properly staffed with the proper number of team members possessing the required skills on a daily basis and on an event basis
  • Responsible for ensuring that the processes and procedures of the Operations department are updated, implemented and maintained


Health & Safety Responsibilities and Accountabilities  

Responsible for ensuring that all areas covered by Occupational Health & Safety Act are adhered to, specifically; 

  • Performing workplace inspections 
  • Conducting safety information sessions 
  • Assisting with incident investigations  
  • Ensuring that staff is properly trained and advised of safety hazards  
  • Observing team members as they perform their duties to ensure safety measures are being followed, and ensuring corrective action is taken if safety measures are not being maintained 
  • Recognizing team members who follow workplace safety 


Qualifications (what we look for)

  • Minimum 5 years’ previous experience as a supervisor or manager in an operations department of a public assembly facility
  • Knowledge of facility operations including drayage, decorators, maintenance, housekeeping, trades, audio/visual, electrical, food service, equipment etc. 
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, and schematics
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Proficient knowledge of the OH&S Act, Ontario specifically sections 25 & 26 of the Act
  • Two to five years of project management experience  
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Basic bookkeeping knowledge
  • Must possess effective oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Basic spreadsheet and word processing skills
  • Team player

This role falls within a base salary range of $71,800 to $110,000 annually, consistent with the organization’s established salary ranges. Salary ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to market data, internal equity, education, relevant experience, knowledge, and applicable skillset.
