Job description

The Superintendent is responsible for comprehending and utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals, and work specification instructions to weld steel and aluminum plates and pipe in the repair and/or construction of marine vessels, industrial components, and associated equipment. This position reports directly to the Project Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.Supervise welding crew on all structural/piping work on craftsGTAW/GMAW/SMAWRead a tape measureLay out MaterialFit- Up MaterialRiggingRead a work specification/blue print/drawing/tech manualComprehensive Torch and Weld WorkRadius GageHand power ToolsShop Tools/EquipmentRequired Education and Experience:Must possess 5 years of experience welding 5XXX aluminum welding10 years Navy Ship Repair Experience (shipyard,contractor,government)Ability to comprehend and utilize blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals to weld metalsNavy Standard Items ExperienceMust have strong work ethic, be self-motivated, and able to multitaskUnderstand Work Process to measure, cut, and weld metal (of multiple material types) to required specificationsAbility to weld metal using various requirements and procedures such as SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW.Basic understanding of NDT RequirementsAbility to conduct air, hydrostatic tests and vacuum testsAble to work in a fast-paced environment with ongoing deadlinesMust be able to work independentlyUnderstanding of Ship repair industryMust be DBIDS/TWIC credential eligibleMust possess a valid driver's licenseMust be able to pass a pre-employment drug testPreferred Experience:LCAC/SSC experience preferred Working Conditions: Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office controlled environment.May have to visit projects aboard ships, rigs both on and offshore as well as confined spaces.
