We are currently seeking an Manager of Software Development to lead our Ottawa based software team!

What will you be doing?

  • Provide leadership and direction to the software development team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage software development projects from inception to completion, including project planning, resource allocation, scheduling, and budgeting, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to the software development team, reviewing design specifications, code, and architecture, and ensuring adherence to best practices and coding standards.
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to define product requirements, features, and functionalities, translating business requirements into technical solutions and project plans.
  • Ensure the quality and reliability of software products through the implementation of quality assurance processes and procedures, including code reviews, testing, and quality metrics tracking.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and issues, developing risk management plans and contingency strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and deliverables.
  • Communicate project status, updates, and risks to stakeholders, including senior management, customers, and cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment and transparency throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Allocate and manage software development resources, including manpower, budget, and tools, to support project activities and meet project objectives and deadlines.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to software development team members, identifying strengths, areas for improvement, and opportunities for growth and development.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in software development processes, tools, and methodologies, identifying opportunities for optimization and enhancement to increase efficiency and productivity.

  • Proven experience as a software engineering leader.
  • Track record of building performing teams.
  • Experience of defining successful technical strategies and best practices that improve execution and team capability.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Previous embedded software experience working within complex system designs in an aviation, automotive or similar embedded systems development environment working to rigorous standards (e.g. RTCA DO-178B/C, DAL level A or B, or similar) would be a strong advantage.
