Job description

Director of Project Controls and Oversight

Bethesda, MD, United States

Job Description

Job Summary:

Ready to turn big projects into predictable outcomes? The Director, Project Controls and Oversight is the strategic force behind how Centrus plans, measures, manages, and delivers its enterprise project portfolio. This leader establishes the governance, standards, and performance discipline that keep complex projects on budget, on schedule, and ahead of risk. Leading a team of project controls experts, you'll transform financial, scheduling, and operational data into clear insights that help executives make smarter decisions and keep major initiatives moving forward.

What You Will Do:

You'll lead the enterprise project controls strategy from planning through executionโ€”setting standards for cost, schedule, forecasting, earned value, change management, risk, and performance reporting. You'll oversee budgets, commitments, cash flow, forecasts, integrated master schedules, and critical-path activities while identifying trends and potential issues before they become surprises. You'll serve as the final checkpoint for major project changes, strengthen governance and accountability across business units, and translate complex project data into executive-ready dashboards and recommendations. Most importantly, you'll build and lead a high-performing team of cost engineers, schedulers, estimators, and project controls professionals who bring discipline, insight, and confidence to Centrus' most important projects.

We'd Love To Hear From People With:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or another highly analytical or quantitative discipline
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in project controls, ideally supporting large-scale capital programs or complex project portfolios
  • 5+ years of experience in a director-level or senior leadership role
  • An active PMP (Project Management Professional), CCP (Certified Cost Professional), or PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional) certification.
  • Deep expertise in project cost management, budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, earned value management, change control, and risk management
  • Extensive experience with enterprise project management tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or Smartsheet
  • Experience working with financial ERP systems such as SAP, Sage, QuickBooks, or comparable platform
  • Advanced data analytics and visualization skills, including Power BI and advanced Excel modeling (or similar business intelligence platforms)
  • Demonstrated ability to turn complex project and financial data into actionable insights for senior executives and stakeholders
  • Proven experience building, leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing project controls teams

What A Successful Candidate Brings:

  • A Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience overseeing enterprise-scale capital programs or highly complex project portfolios.
  • A track record of establishing project controls governance, standard operating procedures, and quality frameworks across multiple business units.
  • Strong expertise in Earned Value Management (EVM), quantitative risk analysis, contingency planning, and predictive forecasting.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to make complex financial, schedule, and operational information easy for executives, boards, and external stakeholders to understand.
  • A strategic, analytical mindset with the confidence to challenge assumptions, spot emerging risks, and turn project data into better decisions.
