Director of Development @ Hillsborough County Youth Serving Agency

The Director of Development leads and manages the strategic direction of the organization, and fundraising strategies to advance the agency’s mission. Working closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, the Director of Development will grow revenue by cultivating key donor relationships and designing fundraising events that successfully generate funding and increase engagement between donors and the organization. The successful candidate will have a personal commitment to our mission and will be an experienced fundraiser, team leader and supportive team player. S/he will provide executive-level leadership and seamlessly transition between leading innovative efforts and tasks; collaborating on initiatives with the Executive Director, colleagues and board members; and coaching team members. She/he will possess an entrepreneurial spirit and competencies in effectively cultivating long-lasting relationships, developing and executing fundraising strategies, and seamlessly moving donors through the gifting process. Focus is on individual, corporate, foundation and special events revenue.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and execute annual fundraising plan.
  • Serve as the development lead, working closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop strategy and to create and successfully execute the fund development plan.
  • Lead staff in all aspects of the fundraising cycle, including corporate engagement, major gifts, grants administration, individual giving, events, annual appeals, and external communications.
  • Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships.
  • Participate in community clubs or corporate events to generate new donor contacts.
  • Design, implement and manage an integrated fundraising strategy tied to short-term and long-term financial goals.
  • Develop metrics to track fundraising efforts that can consistently be shared with the Development Team, Board of Directors and senior leadership to measure performance over time.
  • Provide general oversight of the organization’s contributed revenue activities and operations, and plan, monitor and review the success of activities

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit administration, strategic philanthropy or fundraising, business, marketing, public relations or related field preferred. Five-plus years of fundraising and management experience, preferably in a social services agency, is required.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills; and high ethical standards are required.
  • Must be able to interact comfortably and diplomatically in a range of environments and with people from diverse backgrounds including participants, staff, Board members, donors, volunteers and the community at large.
  • Must have experience with individual donor development including identifying, cultivating, and securing gifts from major donors.
