Graham is actively recruiting a Commercial Contract Specialist to support our Infrastructure Division. Reporting functionally to the Commercial Manager and working closely with project leadership, this role is responsible for providing contractual support during pre-construction as well as providing contractual and change management commercial support to project teams during project execution.
The Commercial Specialist is accountable for managing the contractual and commercial aspects of assigned projects within the Business Unit, typically supporting projects with annual revenues under $25M. This role also requires the ability to work collaboratively with project teams while embedded on-site to ensure disciplined contract administration, effective change and risk management and mitigation, for positive project outcomes.
 
Your Role in Building What Matters – From Office to Site

  • Support contract and commercial management across assigned projects, including prime contracts reviews, subcontract preparation and effective change management to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and effective risk management and mitigation, while ensuring adherence to Graham’s standards, processes, and commercial best practices
  • Subtrade buyout support to include coordination of the RFP process and evaluation and review of subtrade bids, coordination of the prequalification of trades, supporting the development and management of the subtrade buyout plan including subtrade award recommendations and the drafting of subcontract documentation, ensuring alignment with budget and forecasts
  • GMP's, assist with the preparation and presentation of GMP packages to the Stakeholders
  • Contribute to financial oversight by supporting project leadership team with cash flow reviews, revenue projections, cost control, forecasting, profit and loss tracking and risk management to maintain strong commercial performance
  • Assist with change management and contractual claims, including supporting claims development, preparing and tracking change orders, and ensuring contractual entitlements are maintained through proactive documentation and adherence to prescribed notice periods
  • Provide contractual and commercial support to project teams, by ensuring compliant contract administration, alignment with contract requirements, and effective risk and opportunity tracking
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and support team development, by building relationships with stakeholders, including working with clients and subcontractors as well as engagement in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Project close-out, support project teams with contract close-out in order to achieve formal project acceptance through coordination with project team in relation to contractual close-out requirement

The Right Tools for the Job  

  • Education: Diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience: 7+ years of construction experience, including 4+ years in commercial, contract administration or project management roles on projects up to $25M in value on a variety of contract models.  Experience in Construction Management forms of contract is preferred.
  • Skills & Tools: Working knowledge of construction contract administration, cost control, forecasting, change management and risk management. Experience in preparing requests for subtrade pricing and the evaluation of subtrade bids.  Experience supporting contract change management and claims process, including preparation of correspondence, records and supporting documentation. Ability to interpret contractual/legal language and provide informed support to project team during negotiations under the guidance of Senior Commercial Manager.
