Job description
The Andersen Lab in the Department of Biology is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform routine laboratory processes and follow established protocols under close supervision. Duties include but are not limited to the generation of reagents, ordering of lab supplies, propagation of nematodes, vertebrate animal handling, parasitic nematode isolation and genomics, operation of general lab equipment, lab maintenance, and management of work-study personnel. The Laboratory Technician performs routine laboratory processes and follows routine protocols under close supervision.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities Operate standard equipment. Use standard procedures for specific laboratory tests and preparation techniques. Assist with laboratory maintenance, prepare solutions, and order supplies.
Identify and report problems in the completion of routine lab processes. Other duties as assigned. In addition to the duties described above Microinjection for transgenesis or genome editing.
This is a grant-funded position; continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or graduation equivalent. Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with nematodes (e.g., Caenorhabditis elegans) and microinjection for transgenesis or genome editing is preferred but not necessary. Familiarity with Apple or PC products is necessary. Technical Skills & Expected Level of Proficiency Inventory Control - Awareness Laboratory Equipment Maintenance - Awareness Laboratory Safety - Awareness Laboratory Troubleshooting and Technical Problem Solving - Awareness Record Keeping - Awareness Solution Preparation and Equipment Programming - Awareness The core technical skills listed are most essential; additional technical skills may be required based on specific division or department needs
