Role Overview:

We are looking to hire a detailed-oriented, driven, and resourceful Electrical Designer for multiple Microgrid Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) projects. The successful candidate will perform project and electrical design work. You will prepare project design packages typically comprising one lines, layouts, MTOs, installation details etc. under the supervision of a Senior/Lead Engineer. Mechanical / construction design experience is a plus. This position will report to the Director of Microgrid Engineering and will work a hybrid schedule based out of our headquarters in downtown Houston, TX.


Key Responsibilities:


Perform the following under supervision of Project Lead Engineer:

  • Complete Electrical designs and layouts for complete systems and components of a project
  • Performs project design packages typically comprising one lines, layouts, MTOs, installation details, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety factors, and client requirements
  • Understands and applies commonly used company design standards and methods.
  • Designs and creates orthographic (2D) drawings
  • Collaborates with Engineers and Designers to ensure quality of design
  • Responsible for ensuring that tasks assigned are completed on time and are of good quality
  • Other items as required by Engineering management team

Requirements

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • Associates in CAD & Design or Electrical Engineering from accredited university
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in Electrical Design required
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel & Power Point) & various pdf editing/mark up software
  • Demonstrated proficiency to do AutoCAD drawings
  • Physical requirements and working conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting including performing occasional site visits and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry [files weighing up to 20 pounds]; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Construction, Utility, Substation Design, or Oil and Gas Industry preferred
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects
  • Effective written and oral communications
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate with other areas to achieve goals and objectives
  • Ability to effectively manage time and complete assignments on a timely basis
  • Ability to develop a good understanding of Company standards, practices and procedures pertaining to engineering and design
  • Work with minimum supervision, be a self-starter, be able to meet goals and deadlines on own initiative
  • Be self-motivated and able to maintain deadlines of assigned project deliverables, via reports from project management scheduling software
  • Developing a good understanding of Company standards, practices and procedures pertaining to engineering and design.
  • Understanding of cable sizing, conduit / cable, and tray fill calculations
  • Knowledge of electrical power distribution and control systems design and understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
