Mechanical Discipline / Department Manager - Nashville

Dewberry’s MEPS team offers design services across high-performance buildings, hospitals, net zero/renewable energy technologies, microgrid and energy resilience design, and other specialized MEPS services. The team works on projects for universities, healthcare systems, state, local, and federal government agencies, and large global industrial manufacturers. As mechanical discipline/department manager, you will provide operational and technical guidance, training and mentoring of design resources, and assist business unit and project managers with technical guidance and cost estimates. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to achieve project commitments and growth objectives.

• Providing mechanical technical guidance/leadership to accomplish the work committed to in proposals and assign/lead the appropriate mechanical resources.
• Assist Project/Client Managers by providing an engineering design team to meet the client’s desires and budget; involvement in direct sales and sales efforts for multidisciplinary projects.
• Technical and quality oversight of all mechanical work; authority for all technical decisions made for projects within the department including establishing/improving mechanical design standards.
• Provide on-the-spot advice and decisions, technical and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with all disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
• Take an active role in recruitment of mechanical staff including networking, recruitment, interviewing and deal closing.
• Organize mechanical staff to allow career advancement, professional development, quality client service, and operational efficiencies to meet business and project financial goals.
• Schedule the mechanical department/staff, covering project assignments, priorities, delivery due dates, workload capacity, and annual evaluations for each direct report.
• Provide general updates of where the mechanical discipline is at on projects (status, tasks to complete, percentage complete, budget, etc.).
• Identify milestone dates when each discipline should provide information at each phase to allow sufficient time for good design coordination.
• Maintain focus on project scope during the design process to identify potential additional services.
• Discipline/Department Managers control all production resources; all commitments and accountability for deliveries come from Discipline/Department Managers.

• Accomplished mechanical engineer/PE with 15+ years of progressive technical experience in mechanical system design.
• Experience with technical oversight of multiple projects, meeting contract specifications and driving team high performance and growth.
• Self‑motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
