JOB SUMMARY/ DESCRIPTION


The Materials Manager is responsible for the end-to-end management of material flow across the facility(s), including receiving, warehousing, kitting, and MRB (Material Review Board) operations. This role ensures the right materials are available at the right time to support production schedules while effectively controlling nonconforming material. The Materials Manager drives operational excellence through process standardization, inventory accuracy, and cross-functional coordination with production, quality, procurement, and project management teams.

Requirements

Lead and manage daily operations of receiving, warehouse, kitting, and MRB areas

Ensure accurate and timely receipt, inspection, and system transactions of incoming materials

Oversee inventory control processes including cycle counts, reconciliation, and accuracy improvement initiatives

Develop and maintain efficient kitting strategies to support production schedules and minimize downtime

Coordinate material availability with production control and project teams to meet build and delivery timelines

Manage / Support MRB operations, including segregation, identification, and physical control of nonconforming material

Establish and enforce standard work, layout optimization, and material handling best practices across all areas

Monitor KPIs (inventory accuracy, on-time delivery, picking efficiency, dock-to-stock time, etc.) and implement corrective actions

Lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, 5S, waste reduction) across all material flow functions

Manage staffing, training, and performance of departmental leads and team members

Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements in all material handling operations

Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to resolve shortages, quality issues, and delivery constraints, including RTVs and supplier returns



Required Skills & Competencies

Strong leadership and team management across multiple operational departments 

Deep understanding of material flow, inventory control, and nonconforming material processes within a manufacturing environment 

Inventory management expertise including MRP/ERP systems, cycle counting, demand alignment, and MRB tracking 

Strong knowledge of industrial electrical components, switchgear materials, and power distribution equipment used in PDC, E-House, or switchgear manufacturing 

Ability to interpret electrical BOMs, manufacturer part numbers, and material specifications to support production readiness and inventory accuracy 

Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles including 5S, pull systems, and waste elimination 

Working knowledge of quality systems, MRB processes, and material disposition workflows 

Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills 

Data-driven mindset with ability to analyze KPIs and drive operational improvements 

High attention to detail with strong organizational and process discipline skills



Minimum Experience Required

7+ years of experience in materials management, warehouse operations, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment

3+ years of leadership experience managing multiple functional teams (receiving, warehouse, kitting, and/or MRB)

Experience in PDC, E-House, switchgear, or similar engineered-to-order manufacturing strongly preferred

Proven track record of improving inventory accuracy, material flow efficiency, MRB control, and on-time delivery performance

Demonstrated experience implementing Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, value stream mapping, pull systems, Kanban) to improve material flow, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency strongly preferred



Preferred Education & Certifications

Formal education in Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and progressive hands-on experience in materials management

APICS certifications such as CPIM or CSCP preferred, but not required; relevant practical experience in inventory and production control considered equivalent

Lean / Six Sigma training or certification (Green Belt preferred) or demonstrated application of Lean principles in a manufacturing environment

Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems gained through formal training or on-the-job system ownership and usage

Familiarity with ISO quality systems and MRB/nonconformance processes through practical experience or formal training



Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of walking. 

Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Ability to perform repetitive movements.

Ability to stand (for extended periods of time), walk, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl and twist

Ability to carry tools.

Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas.
