About this Position
The Assistant Vice President, Platform Engineering & Operations provides executive leadership and strategic direction for the enterprise Cloud Platform Engineering ecosystem, including DevSecOps, observability, reliability engineering, and cloud-native infrastructure automation. This role is responsible for architecting and scaling a secure, resilient hybrid-cloud platform that accelerates product delivery and modernizes legacy application environments.
As a key driver of the enterprise transformation strategy, this executive will lead the cultural and technical shift toward cloud-first architectures, self-service developer platforms, and modern cloud operations that improve efficiency, reduce risk, and strengthen cybersecurity posture across our core modernization roadmaps. In addition, the role oversees Mainframe Managed Services governance, vendor partnerships, and co-managed operational models to ensure legacy environments are stably integrated with, and systematically modernized into, our core cloud strategy.
The salary range for this role is $185,000 - $195,000.
This role is not eligible for sponsorship now or in the future.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Platform Modernization and Automation
Provide executive leadership for enterprise platform modernization through automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), platform engineering, and self-service capabilities that improve scalability, resiliency, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability across hybrid technology environments. Establish modernization roadmaps, engineering standards, and automation governance while partnering with DevSecOps, Enterprise Architecture, and Application Development to remove engineering bottlenecks and accelerate technology delivery.
Platform Engineering and Operational Leadership
Lead enterprise Platform Engineering operations supporting cloud infrastructure, observability, DevSecOps, and legacy technology services. Establish operational standards, engineering practices, service delivery models, and governance processes that ensure platform availability, security, resiliency, consistency, and compliance. Provide executive oversight for platform strategy, operational performance, capacity planning, risk management, and continuous service improvement.
Organizational Leadership, Workforce Development, and Knowledge Continuity
Provide executive leadership for Platform Engineering organizations through workforce planning, organizational development, succession planning, talent acquisition, vendor management, and operational governance. Build high-performing engineering teams by developing technical capabilities, promoting automation-first engineering practices, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and implementing structured knowledge management strategies that reduce operational risk and strengthen long-term organizational capability.
Observability and Reliability Engineering
Lead the Observability & Reliability Engineering function by establishing enterprise monitoring standards, reliability engineering practices, and baseline performance, availability, and capacity metrics across enterprise platforms. Ensure platform services are fully integrated into enterprise observability frameworks that provide actionable operational intelligence, improve incident response, strengthen service reliability, and support proactive capacity and performance management.
Cross-Functional Platform Leadership and Service Integration
Direct collaboration across Cloud Platform Engineering, DevSecOps Engineering, and Observability & Reliability Engineering while partnering with Data Platform Engineering, legacy platform teams, enterprise architecture, security, application development, and external service providers. Align engineering priorities, modernization initiatives, operational objectives, and technology investments to deliver consistent enterprise platform capabilities and long-term technology sustainability.
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Establish enterprise platform engineering strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead multiple engineering organizations and technical leaders.
  • Develop organizational capabilities through workforce planning, succession planning, and leadership development.
  • Oversee strategic vendor relationships, consulting partners, and managed service providers.
  • Direct platform modernization, automation, observability, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Communicate platform strategy, operational health, technology risk, and investment recommendations to executive leadership.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Extensive progressive experience in enterprise technology, infrastructure, cloud engineering, platform engineering, or technology operations.
  • Significant leadership experience managing engineering teams, technical professionals, consultants, vendors, or managed service providers.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technology modernization and organizational transformation initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, hybrid infrastructure, automation, Infrastructure as Code, DevSecOps, observability, reliability engineering, and modern platform engineering practices.
  • Experience supporting highly available and business-critical enterprise technology environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with workforce planning, talent development, succession planning, and knowledge continuity.
  • Experience establishing governance and performance expectations for strategic vendors and managed service providers.
  • Strong leadership, communication, strategic planning, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Experience leading enterprise cloud, infrastructure, or platform engineering teams.
  • Experience with large-scale infrastructure modernization and transformation initiatives.
  • Experience overseeing mainframe environments or managed services supporting business-critical platforms.
  • Experience establishing enterprise observability and reliability engineering capabilities.
  • Experience transitioning traditional infrastructure organizations toward automation-driven platform engineering operating models.
