Job Title: House Manager and Family Assistant (with Meal Prep & Childcare Support)

Location: Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107

Employment Type: Part-Time, 20-25 hours per week | 20 hours guaranteed

Schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately 12:00-5:00 PM with weekly evening date night coverage and occasional weekend coverage

Compensation: $30-$35/hour

Start Date: ASAP

  • Maintain a smoke-free environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Reliable personal vehicle required; mileage reimbursed provided for work-related errands when personal vehicle is being used
  • Candidates are required to be up to date on recommended vaccinations in line with American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines (including COVID-19 and flu vaccines), subject to applicable legal accommodations
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred; or willingness to obtain

Who You Are / What We're Looking For

This role is about much more than checking tasks off a list. You'll take ownership of the day-to-day operations of our homekeeping household projects moving, managing schedules and appointments, maintaining organization, coordinating errands, meal prep, and handling the countless details that keep family life running smoothly. You'll have the autonomy to build systems, improve processes, and create a home environment that feels calm, organized, and well cared for.

We're looking for someone who notices what needs to be done before they're asked, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in creating order behind the scenes. Key Responsibilities

Family Support & Childcare

  • Provide back up support for school pickups, drop offs, and childcare
  • Date night and evening coverage approximately once per week
  • Perform daily backpack reset including unpacking, lunch box washing, and packing and preparing for the following morning
  • Handle kid-related errands

Household Organization & Maintenance

  • Create and maintain household organization systems
  • Perform daily resets and light tidying, including dishes, surfaces, high-traffic areas, and weekly fridge cleanout; assist with compost, trash, and recycling
  • Conduct seasonal swaps for clothing, bedding, and decor
  • Support preparation required for events, holiday, and guest prep
  • Support packing and unpacking for family travel
  • Care for indoor plants
  • Perform basic household maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs, replacing batteries, and testing/replacing smoke detector batteries as needed
  • Complete ongoing organizational projects throughout the home, including assembling furniture, installing organizational systems, and building simple storage solutions as needed.

Inventory & Errands

  • Restock pantry, fridge, and household supplies
  • Manage and fulfill inventory of household cleaning supplies at local shop
  • Handle returns, dry cleaning drop-offs, gift shopping, and general errands
  • Handle mail and packages including breaking down and disposing of boxes

Meal Support

  • Plan and prep healthy snacks and dinners daily with full execution of dinner once weekly
  • Develop, manage, and execute weekly grocery planning and shopping
  • Handle kitchen clean-up and ongoing kitchen maintenance

Vendor & Property Oversight

  • Oversee home during family travel, ensuring the property remains secure, well-maintained, and fully operational
  • Oversee cleaners, contractors, and landscapers as needed
  • Research and coordinate repairs, maintenance, and vendor quotes
  • Maintain outdoor spaces and assist with seasonal property upkeep

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

  • Perform occasional deep cleans including fridge, oven, baseboards
  • Refresh garage, mudroom, and entryway on an ongoing basis
  • Clean and maintain mini splits and air purifiers, including replacing filters on a monthly basis

Laundry & Linens

  • Wash, fold, and organize all family laundry and linens
  • Rotate linens
  • Provide thoughtful garment care by following fabric-specific laundering instructions, including air drying delicate items as needed
  • Maintain a tidy and well-stocked laundry area

Vehicle Upkeep

  • Schedule and coordinate routine maintenance appointments for family vehicles, including oil changes and other service needs.
  • Clean out and organize the family vehicle as needed
  • Track registration and insurance

Administrative & Personal Assistant Support

  • Provide occasional travel planning and logistics support
  • Partner with the family to be aware of family's household calendar, coordinating school schedules, appointments, activities, and family commitments to keep everyone organized and informed
  • Track expenses, maintain receipts for expenses incurred as House Manager
  • Coordinate and manage household appointments and events as needed
