Job Code: SMG-SCM-LOG
Job Level: Level 11

Summary

The Senior Manager, Supply Chain Logistics oversees all functional, operational, and financial aspects of our contracted Third-Party Logistics (3PL) footprint within their assigned scope. Serving as the primary bridge between the company and our 3PL partners across the designated network, this role is responsible for ensuring partners meet strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs), optimize warehousing and distribution processes, maintain budgetary compliance, and deliver a seamless end-to-end supply chain experience. The position drives vendor performance management, inventory integrity, and continuous improvement initiatives across single or multiple nodes.

Detailed Description
  • Daily Governance & Communication: Conduct morning alignment calls with 3PL site leadership to review previous day performance, address immediate operational roadblocks, and align on daily labor allocation against forecasted volume.
  • KPI & Performance Tracking: Monitor daily operational dashboards tracking key metrics-such as dock-to-stock turnaround, order cut-off compliance, pick/pack accuracy, and carrier on-time pickup-investigating root causes for any variances.
  • Financial & Invoice Management: Review, validate, and sign off on daily/weekly 3PL pass-through charges, labor logs, and accessorial fees against contracted rate cards to ensure accurate billing.
  • Inventory Control Oversight: Review daily cycle count reports, investigate high-value inventory discrepancies between the 3PL's WMS and the internal ERP system, and authorize inventory adjustments per policy.
  • Escalation & Issue Resolution: Serve as the primary point of escalation for internal cross-functional teams (Customer Service, Transportation, Quality, Demand Planning) regarding delayed orders, damaged freight, or inventory holds.
  • Process Auditing & Continuous Improvement: Perform daily spot-checks on operational workflows, ensuring the 3PL strictly adheres to standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety standards, and special handling requirements.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
  • 3PL Vendor Governance: Strong competency in managing external partner relationships, hosting operational reviews (QBRs), and enforcing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) or Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • WMS & ERP Systems: Proficient in navigating and leveraging Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms (such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics) to track throughput and inventory.

  • Data Analytics: High analytical capability with the skill to synthesize complex logistics data, manage operational budgets, and audit multi-million dollar monthly 3PL invoicing.

  • Continuous Improvement: Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or 5S methodologies to identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective action plans (CAPA).

  • Influence & Communication: Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to drive operational compliance and process improvements without having direct authority over the 3PL's on-site personnel.

Physical Demands
  • Mobility & Site Audits: Ability to walk and stand on concrete warehouse floors for extended periods during facility site visits, audits, and operational walk-throughs.

  • Work Environment: Comfortable working in active fulfillment environments which may experience fluctuations in temperature, dust, and moderate noise levels from material handling equipment.

  • Travel: Ability to travel as needed to visit assigned 3PL facilities and conduct on-site audits (frequency and distance vary based on final scope allocation).

  • Sedentary Work: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer for administrative tasks, data analysis, and virtual partner meetings.

Typical Experience
  • Logistics & Warehousing: 5+ years of hands-on experience in supply chain, distribution, or warehousing operations.

  • External Management: At least 3 years of experience directly managing external 3PL vendors, contractors, or multi-site logistics operations.

  • Project Management: Proven experience leading supply chain projects, such as warehouse transitions, system integrations, seasonal volume planning, or new product launches.

Typical Education
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • Preferred: Master's degree or MBA with a supply chain focus.

  • Preferred Certifications: APICS certification (CPIM or CSCP), Project Management Professional (PMP), or a Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
