Summary:
The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner/Specialist supports the advancement of professional nursing practice through the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs that foster continuous learning, clinical excellence, and patient safety. This role utilizes evidence-based strategies to facilitate professional development, role transition, competency management, and continuous learning to improve patient care outcomes and organizational effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
Educational Process
Conducts comprehensive needs assessments using quality data, stakeholder feedback, and performance metrics to design evidence-based educational initiatives.
Develops, delivers, and evaluates orientation, in-service, competency-based education, and continuing education programs that promote critical thinking and clinical reasoning.
Utilizes principles of adult learning, instructional design, and technology to enhance engagement and knowledge retention.
Leadership
Serves as a leader, mentor, and role model for clinical educators and nursing staff by promoting a culture of inquiry and professional growth.
Participates on organizational and interdisciplinary committees to influence practice standards, support strategic goals, and advocate for excellence in education.
Acts as a liaison between clinical units and education departments to facilitate cohesive educational planning and practice alignment.
Inquiry
Applies evidence-based practice and supports staff in identifying gaps or problems integrating findings into clinical practice while defining desired outcomes.
Collaborates on research projects and quality improvement initiatives that align with the institution's strategic priorities and professional development goals, vision and strategy.
Quality Outcomes
Monitors and evaluates the impact of educational programs on patient care, nursing practice, and organizational performance.
Change Management Facilitates smooth transitions during practice changes, including effective and timely communication, new technology, processes, or care standards.
Employs change theory and project management principles to lead educational components of organizational initiatives allowing for minimal disruptions with maximum outputs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.
Bachelor of Nursing with valid license by the State of Alaska and remain active with all annual licensing requirements.

Non-supervisory - Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional work-related experience.
Nursing Professional Development Specialist
Non-supervisory - Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional work-related experience.

Certification in Basic Life Support required. Current ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, etc card as required for specific work area.
