Job description

Pay Rate: $75,000 - $85,000/year

Power Solutions International (PSI) is a leading manufacturer of emissions-certified powertrains specializing in customized and fully integrated turnkey solutions for the leading global equipment manufacturers in the industrial, transportation, and energy markets manufacturers. Our facilities are housed in one million square feet of engineering, assembly, operations, and distribution space across seven facilities. We are positioned to meet the high production volumes of our customers with added capacity for growth.

Summary:

Reporting to the Test Engineering Supervisor, Test Engineer II will be responsible for coordinating and developing test setups of new internal combustion engines systems, including parts and accessories, for use in the industrial, on-highway, stationery and energy markets, as well as continuing support of the existing PSI product lineup. This position includes coordination between engineering teams working in mechanical, electrical, electro- mechanical, fuel systems, simulation, and controls.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and coordinate component or system validation testing as needed using custom PSI Developed DAQ software and instrumentation. As well as NVH hardware and software systems for combustion and vibration analysis.
  • Support calibration engineers and validation engineers by supervising the test article set up, sign-off of instrumentation, correct configuration of data acquisition systems the execution of test plans.
  • Work with group leader & Systems Engineer(s) to assist in specifying and procuring test equipment and instrumentation to increase engine testing capabilities as necessary.
  • Author test procedures, conduct testing, analyze data, draw conclusions, document and present test results. 
  • Work with upper-level engineering team members to develop custom test equipment and system integration to automate testing using LabView, ComAp, and PLC systems.
  • Lead small projects to support engineering team on processes and standards to improve and enhance organizational capability.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures including the use of personal protective equipment and navigating the plant with alert behavior.
  • All other duties assigned by management, including travel to other PSI facilities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of MSME/EE with 5 yrs. of professional experience, BSME/EE with 4 yrs. of professional experience, or BSAT/MET/EET with 7 yrs. of professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in testing or calibration development of automotive, industrial, or heavy-duty engines and/or vehicles.
  • Subject expertise and/or aptitude of the mechanical and electrical aspects of internal combustion engines including engine components, accessories and electrical.
  • Exhibit ownership and initiative in troubleshooting, proactively solving design challenges, and learning new skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise with engine test equipment and systems used in testing internal combustion engines.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise and/or aptitude of the mechanical and electrical aspects of internal combustion engines.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise with electronic control systems and DC electrical systems, capable of reading and interpreting electrical schematics and diagrams.
  • Knowledge of CAN protocols.
  • Motivated, self-sufficient, technically diverse, and easily adaptable.
  • High-level interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of one or more of the following components mounts & brackets, sheet metal, engine wire harness, clutch, isolators, hoses, cooling systems, and/or rubber belts.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with engine applications for the industrial, power generation, and/or on-highway industries.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.  Experience using ETAS, LabVIEW, MATLAB, and Dewesoft, and post-processing software is preferred.  The ability to develop and maintain LabVIEW application software is a plus ComAp, PLC programing for system integration.
  • Experience with Vibration control, sound attenuation, and NVH.

Language:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range.
  • At times, it may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).
