Job description

KEC Executive Director
  • For Career Center, Alternative Education program and Education for Employment (EFE) #170 System Director
    • To oversee the budget of KEC and all of its programming.
    • Ensure that career and technical educaiton and alternative education programming is offered to all students in the KEC region (#170), serve as the system director from EFE 170 which administers career and technical education relation resources through grant funding received from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). 
    • Provide CTE and alternative education instructional program related leadership, coordination of regional system career development activities in the five-member school districts of the regional system
    • KEC's Exectutive Director reports to and is evaluated by the KEC Board of Control, made up of five partner schools and Kishwaukee College President.
  • Duties and Responsibilities of KEC's Executive Director
    • Serve as the leader of the Education for Employment System, the career center and the alternative education program (Phoenix Academy).
    • Develop annual goals for professional practice aligned with the Board of Control and ISBE direction for the EFE system, career center and alternative education program.
    • Responsible for establishing programs, utilizing input from staff members, citizens' advisory committees and various economic development and workforce constituencies.
    • Responsible for student performance and coordinate with home schools on developing strategies to enhance student success.
    • Work closely with ISBE CTE division for development of planning for career and technical education in the EFE region, the member districts and the career center.
    • Stay ahead of legislative issues and state policies and all other matters concerning career and technical education and alternative education; report and make recommendations to the KEC Board of Control on addressing the best interests of the KEC region.
    • Attend periodic regional, state, and national meetings/professional development events to represent KEC in CTE and alternative education.
    • Prepare meeting agendas, including director reports, business action items and financial reports from KEC Board of Control meetings in cooperation with the KEC Chairperson.
    • Oversee the coordination of professional development activities for member districts certified CTE staff, school counselors and administrators per annual grants for CTE and alternative education.
    • Oversee activities involving student recruitment, program participation and interventions.
    • Develop, administer and maintain fiscal budgets and auditable financial records in cooperation with the cash management system and the auditors.
    • Make appropriate recommendations on new hires and continuing employment in accordance with staff evaluations with the leadership team.
    • Review, evaluate and establish program curriculum to ensure quality career and techical education and alternative education programming.
    • Submit all State Board of Education grant related fiscal and programmatic plans with outcomes for information and reporting as required.
    • Oversee building and organizational safety plans, student and staff handbooks and mandated emergency drill plans with the Building Principal.
    • Be knowledgable of risk management issues both on-site and at satellite classrooms with the Assistant Director and Building Principal.
    • Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and licensure, as assigned by the Board and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulated.
  • Knowledge and Abilities of KEC's Executive Director
    • Planning, organization and direction of the KEC career and technical education and alternative education programming.
    • Budget preparation and control (local, state and federal funds).
    • Adhere to principles and practices of management and instructional leadership per Illinois Professional School Leadership Standards.
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
    • Ability to plan, organize and complete work to meet schedules, timelines and expectations of the Board of Control.
    • Effectively and efficiently develop Board agendas and materials to guide the Board of Control through monthly meetings.
    • Work independently with little direction.
    • Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports and maintain related documentation.
    • Supervise and evaluate the performance of the KEC leadership team.
  • Minimum Qualifications for KEC's Executive Director
    • Professional Educator License with a principal endorsement.  
    • 2,000 hours of verifiable paid work experience in one of the seven occupational areas of:
      • Agricultural Sciences
      • Arts and Communications
      • Finance and Business Services
      • Health Services and Technology
      • Human and Public Services
      • Information Teachnology 
      • Manufactoring, Engineering, Technology and Trades

    • Work Day: 8 hours
    • Salary: Regionally competitive compensation package for a minimum of $120,000, commensurate with education and comparable experience
