Job description

Inventory Manager - Retail Dispensary

At Justice Grown, we're looking for a detail-oriented inventory leader who thrives in a fast-paced, highly regulated retail environment. If you're passionate about inventory accuracy, operational efficiency, and developing high-performing teams, we'd love to meet you.

As the Inventory Manager, you'll lead all inventory operations within the dispensary, ensuring accurate product tracking, regulatory compliance, and optimal inventory levels across all cannabis and ancillary products. You'll oversee secure and organized back-of-house operations, develop and support the Inventory team, and partner closely with dispensary leadership to maintain inventory accuracy while supporting overall business performance.

If you're a hands-on leader who enjoys improving processes, solving operational challenges, and making a measurable impact, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

As the Inventory Manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing all inventory operations within the dispensary while ensuring inventory accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.

Your responsibilities include:

Inventory Management & Compliance
  • Oversee and manage all dispensary inventory activities, including product intake, reconciliation, storage, vault organization, and sales floor replenishment.
  • Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly inventory records for all cannabis and ancillary products in Metrc and POS systems.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts, full inventory audits, and daily reconciliations; investigate, document, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and local cannabis regulations, including tracking, reporting, testing documentation, security, and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Process product manifests, transfers, returns, quarantines, recalls, and waste disposal accurately and on time.
  • Monitor expiration dates and manage aging or slow-moving inventory to minimize loss.
  • Serve as Agent in Charge (AIC) when required, overseeing inventory transfers, returns, and disposal activities.
  • Assist with compliance audits, regulatory inspections, and product recalls as needed.
  • Uphold cleanliness, organization, and security standards in all back-of-house inventory areas.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Directly supervise Inventory Coordinators, including scheduling, task delegation, coaching, training, performance reviews, and corrective action.
  • Provide hands-on onboarding and ongoing training to ensure consistency, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate clearly with team members to ensure expectations, priorities, and procedures are well understood.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and mutual respect.
  • Balance individual and team responsibilities while supporting team success over personal interests.
  • Give and receive feedback constructively and contribute to building morale and commitment to shared goals.
Product, Vendor & Operational Support
  • Oversee product intake by verifying manifests against incoming shipments and entering products into seed-to-sale systems promptly.
  • Coordinate with vendors and purchasing teams to maintain appropriate stock levels, product variety, and compliant supply.
  • Review and maintain all required product testing results and compliance documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with cultivators and vendors.
  • Prepare and analyze inventory reports to support sales trends, prevent stockouts, and optimize inventory turnover.
  • Collaborate with dispensary leadership, marketing, and sales teams to identify promotions and movement strategies for slow-moving products.
  • Pick and pull inventory for in-store and online order fulfillment and support dispensary staff with inventory-related troubleshooting.
  • Support the Store/Dispensary Manager with operational needs, including occasional opening or closing of the store when required.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance inventory accuracy, efficiency, and operational performance.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is an experienced inventory leader who is passionate about operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and developing high-performing teams.

Qualifications include:

  • 3+ years of inventory management experience in a retail or regulated industry; cannabis experience strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience with proven ability to coach and lead a team.
  • Working knowledge of Metrc and retail POS systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze and reconcile complex data.
  • Familiarity with state-specific cannabis inventory and tracking regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Ability to take direction and complete daily tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain product accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate with other staff and associates in all situations.
  • Ability to perceive and meet the needs of team members and management.
  • Punctual, professional, and able to communicate clearly with managers and other staff.
  • Knowledgeable on strains, genetics, and cultivation practices.
  • High level of efficiency, patience, and flexibility.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly supervises Inventory Coordinators. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, coaching, performance management, corrective action, succession planning, professional development, and, when necessary, separation decisions. The Inventory Manager is expected to build and maintain a high-performing inventory team that consistently achieves operational excellence while ensuring inventory accuracy, regulatory compliance, and exceptional internal support for dispensary operations.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Benefits

Eligible full-time team members enjoy a competitive compensation package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life insurance, short-term disability, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), generous Paid Time Off (PTO), paid holidays, employee discounts, and eligibility for a discretionary bonus program based on individual and company performance.
