Job description

ESC has an exciting direct hire opportunity for a Plant Accountant to support our premier multi-national packaging client. The Plant Accountant is responsible for supporting plant-level accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and inventory control activities within a publicly traded manufacturing environment. This role assists with month-end close, inventory accounting, standard costing, financial analysis, and corporate reporting requirements while gaining exposure to the broader financial operations of the plant. The Plant Accountant helps ensure compliance with GAAP and SOX internal control requirements, supports audit activities, and works with Corporate Finance to maintain accurate financial records and reporting.


This role partners closely with the Plant Manager, Director of Operations, and operational leadership to analyze production costs, labor, materials, overhead, and inventory levels, using financial insight to support decision‑making, cost control, and operational efficiency. The Plant Controller participates in production meetings, conducts plant walkthroughs, manages front‑office staff, and supports audits, forecasts, annual operating plans, and strategic initiatives while ensuring inventory accuracy and compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.

What You’ll Do as a Plant Accountant

  • Assist with inventory accuracy, including quarterly physical inventories, audit cadence, and variance resolution
  • Manage monthly closing, plant financial statements, and standardized financial reporting in accordance with corporate timelines
  • Prepare budgeting, forecasting, and annual operating plan submissions
  • Maintain standard costs, cost accounting processes, and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Manage compliance with SOX internal controls and maintain audit readiness
  • Participate in production meetings and conduct regular plant walkthroughs
  • Partner with plant management on manufacturing finance and cost management
  • Provide day‑to‑day oversight of the plant accounting clerk and plant planner
  • Collaborate with corporate finance on reporting accuracy and control compliance

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance,
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory controls, and month‑end close
  • Working knowledge of GAAP principles
