UnityPoint Health St. Lukes has 2 hospital campus locations. and home-based care for patients in Sioux City and the surrounding Siouxland area. St. Luke’s offers a full range services and programs that includes a state-of-the-art surgical center, Siouxland’s premier birth center, 24/7 cardiovascular care, and Level III emergency department.   • Dedicated support from Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in both the clinic and hospital settings.

  • 24/7 hospitalist program manages adult and pediatric inpatient care, allowing surgeons to focus on surgical services.

  • Fully integrated health system utilizing Epic EMR across clinics and hospitals to enhance care coordination.

  • Experienced clinical and non-clinical staff with strong relationships throughout the community.

  • Full-time position with dedicated administrative time and flexible scheduling to ensure excellent patient access.

Responsibilities

  • Balanced mix of trauma, general surgery, and outpatient follow-up care.

  • Typical office hours:

  • Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

  • Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Average of 15 patients per day, and postoperative follow-up visits.

  • Office procedures vary based on physician preference.

  • Practice includes both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities.

Surgical Scope

  • Appendectomy

  • Cholecystectomy

  • Breast Surgery

  • minimally invasive hernia repair

  • Robot assisted surgery

  • hernia repair

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) surgery

  • Colectomy

  • Complex abdominal surgery, Dialysis access procedures

  • Endocrine surgery

  • Lymphatic system and spleen surgery

Call Schedule

  • Shared 1:3 call rotation.

  • Coverage includes level 3 trauma, ED, and inpatient consultation

  • Approximately 10 days of call per month, with home call (not required to remain onsite).

  • Evening and weekend call responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO

  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in General Surgery

  • Ability to obtain and hold an unrestricted license to practice in the state of Iowa

  • Hold current and unrestricted state and federal authority to prescribe and administer medications as necessary or appropriate to the physician’s field of practice

  • Eligible to work in the United States (H1-B cap exempt)

  • J-1 waiver sponsorship available
