Position Summary

Grove Christian School seeks a passionate and Christ-centered Music Teacher to lead and develop a vibrant music program for students in K through 12th grade. The Music Teacher will cultivate a love for music, creativity, worship, and performance while helping students grow academically, artistically, and spiritually. This position includes teaching foundational music education in the Lower School and advancing musical theory, appreciation, and instrumentation instruction in the Middle and Upper School divisions.

The Music Teacher will create engaging musical experiences that support the mission of Grove Christian School and encourage students to use their gifts for the glory of God.

Primary Responsibilities

Lower School (K–5th Grade)

  • Teach foundational music concepts including rhythm, melody, pitch, movement, singing, and music appreciation.
  • Introduce and teach recorder and ukulele instruction.
  • Prepare students for music performances, chapel participation, and school assemblies.
  • Organize and lead Lower School musical presentations and seasonal programs.
  • Foster creativity, confidence, and joyful participation in music.
  • Integrate biblical principles and worship into music instruction where appropriate.

Middle School & Upper School (6th–12th Grade)

  • Teach music theory, music history, and instrumentation.
  • Provide instruction in instrumental and vocal music development.
  • Direct and oversee the weekly chapel worship band by selecting Christ-centered and age-appropriate music, mentoring student musicians and sound booth team members, and collaborating with church personnel to coordinate sound, lighting, and worship equipment needs.
  • Develop student understanding of reading music, composition, performance techniques, and ensemble participation.
  • Encourage musical excellence while creating opportunities for student leadership and collaboration.
  • Prepare students for performances, concerts, chapel music opportunities, and special school events.
  • Support and mentor students interested in advanced musical study and performance.
General Responsibilities
  • Maintain a classroom environment that reflects Christian values, professionalism, and effective classroom management.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration to support the overall mission and vision of the school.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Plan lessons that are developmentally appropriate and engaging across all grade levels.
  • Maintain music equipment, instruments, and instructional materials.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and other assigned duties.
  • Support the spiritual formation of students through Christ-centered relationships and instruction.
Qualifications
  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and agreement with the mission and Statement of Faith of Grove Christian School.
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field preferred.
  • Teaching experience with elementary and secondary students preferred.
  • Knowledge of music theory, instrumental instruction, vocal instruction, and performance preparation.
  • Ability to teach recorder and ukulele at the elementary level.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students of varying ages and skill levels.
  • Virginia teaching certification or eligibility preferred.
