About Us

Von Sossan & Associates, Inc. is a certified public accounting firm serving individuals and businesses in the Lima–Elida area and northwest Ohio. Since 1996, our CPAs and accounting professionals have provided tax planning and preparation, accounting, payroll services, small-business consulting, and personal financial planning. We work one-on-one with clients to deliver accurate, ethical, and client-focused tax and accounting services.

Position Overview

We are hiring Tax Preparers/Accountants to support our year-round and tax-season work. Roles are available as:

  • Full-time: Year-round tax and accounting work, with increased hours during tax season.
  • Part-time: Regular weekly hours, with additional availability during peak season.
  • Seasonal: Temporary role focused primarily on tax season (approximately January–April), with possible extension.

You will prepare individual and small-business tax returns, support basic accounting and payroll-related tasks, and help deliver clear, professional service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct client interviews (in person, by phone, or video) to gather tax and financial information.
  • Collect and review source documents: W‑2s, 1099s, K‑1s, brokerage statements, mortgage interest, tuition, business records, etc.
  • Prepare individual tax returns (Form 1040 and related schedules) and basic business returns (e.g., Schedule C, 1065, 1120‑S) as experience allows.
  • Complete required IRS due-diligence documentation for credits and filing statuses (e.g., EITC, CTC, HOH) and maintain records per IRS requirements.
  • Identify missing information, follow up with clients, and resolve open items before filing.
  • Explain tax results, balances due, refunds, and estimated payments in plain language.
  • Assist with accounting services as needed, including bookkeeping support, financial statement preparation, and related work.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and follow our information-security and data-protection policies.
  • Meet productivity and quality standards, especially during peak tax-season weeks.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid IRS PTIN (or ability to obtain one before starting work).
  • At least 1 prior tax season preparing individual returns (for seasonal/part-time); 2+ seasons preferred for full-time roles.
  • Comfortable working with professional tax and accounting software and paperless document workflows.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential client information responsibly.
  • Reliable attendance and availability through the filing deadline, including some evenings/weekends during peak season as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience with small-business returns (Schedule C, 1065, 1120‑S).
  • Prior experience in a public accounting or tax-preparation firm.

Work Schedule & Seasonality

  • Full-time: Approximately 40 hours per week year-round; increased hours during tax season.
  • Part-time: Approximately 15–25 hours per week, with additional hours during peak season.
  • Seasonal: Temporary role from January through April, with potential for extension or conversion to part-time/full-time based on performance and firm needs.
  • Peak season may require some evening and weekend hours.

Compensation

  • Seasonal/Part-time Tax Preparer: $20–$35 per hour, based on experience, credentials, and complexity of returns handled.
  • Full-time Tax Preparer/Accountant: $55,000–$75,000 per year, plus potential bonus/commission based on performance and firm results.
  • Overtime paid for non-exempt employees in accordance with applicable law.

Benefits

  • Flexible scheduling during and after tax season
  • Paid training and ongoing tax-law updates
  • Paid time off / holiday pay
  • Retirement plan
  • Health/dental/vision reimbursement plan for full-time staff
  • Performance bonuses or return-based incentives

Compliance & Background

  • Must pass a background check appropriate for a role with access to client financial data.
  • Must agree to follow all IRS due-diligence rules and firm policies regarding client data security and record retention.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief note about your tax-preparation experience (types of returns, software used, and availability) through Indeed. We will contact qualified candidates to schedule an interview.
