What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager ICS Cyber Security, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Manager ICS Cyber Security, you need expertise in industrial control systems (ICS), risk assessment, network security, and usually a relevant degree in cybersecurity, engineering, or information technology. Familiarity with security frameworks (like NIST or ISA/IEC 62443), intrusion detection systems, and certifications such as CISSP, GICSP, or CISM is highly valued. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help you coordinate teams and interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. These capabilities are critical for protecting operational technology environments from cyber threats and ensuring the safety and reliability of industrial processes.

What is a Manager ICS Cyber Security?

A Manager ICS Cyber Security is responsible for overseeing the protection of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) from cyber threats. They develop and implement security policies, manage risk assessments, and coordinate incident response for critical infrastructure environments such as manufacturing plants, utilities, and energy facilities. This role typically involves leading a team, ensuring compliance with regulations, and working with both IT and operational technology (OT) staff to maintain a secure and resilient ICS environment.

What is the difference between Manager Ics Cyber Security vs Security Analyst?

The Manager Ics Cyber Security focuses on overseeing ICS cybersecurity strategies, managing teams, and aligning security policies with organizational goals. In contrast, a Security Analyst primarily monitors security systems, investigates incidents, and implements technical solutions. While both roles require cybersecurity certifications and work within security environments, the Manager Ics Cyber Security has a broader leadership scope, especially in industrial sectors, whereas the Security Analyst is more hands-on with daily security operations.

How does a Manager ICS Cyber Security typically collaborate with engineering and IT teams to secure industrial control systems?

A Manager ICS Cyber Security regularly works alongside engineering and IT departments to develop and implement cybersecurity strategies tailored for industrial control systems (ICS). This collaboration often involves conducting joint risk assessments, coordinating incident response drills, and advising on secure system configuration and network segmentation. Regular communication ensures alignment on compliance requirements and operational priorities, as well as rapid response to emerging threats. Building strong cross-functional relationships is essential for integrating cybersecurity into day-to-day operations and long-term projects.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a foundation in cybersecurity, networking, engineering, instrumentation and controls, or power generation who is ready to grow in the industrial cybersecurity field. You will gain hands-on experience supporting critical systems in a highly reliable, safety-focused utility environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Participate in periodic cybersecurity assessments at plant locations and assist with identifying opportunities to improve the maturity of the ICS cybersecurity program.
  • Provide support for critical systems by helping troubleshoot issues, research new technologies, document changes, and coordinate with engineering, cybersecurity, and plant operations teams.
  • Assist with control system modernization projects by supporting documentation, cybersecurity planning, system reviews, and integration of security measures into plant operations.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, industrial technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity, networking, computer systems, or industrial control systems.
  • Ability to learn power plant control systems, operational technology, and cybersecurity practices in a utility or industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate documentation, follow procedures, and support compliance-related activities.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with a willingness to work with plant, engineering, and cybersecurity teams.
