Manager Hydrodynamic Modeling information
What are some common challenges faced by a Manager Hydrodynamic Modeling when leading multidisciplinary teams on large projects?
What is the difference between Manager Hydrodynamic Modeling vs Hydrodynamic Modeler?
| Aspect | Manager Hydrodynamic Modeling | Hydrodynamic Modeler |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Bachelor's or Master's in Civil, Mechanical, or Ocean Engineering; experience in project management | Bachelor's or Master's in Civil, Mechanical, Ocean, or Environmental Engineering; specialized modeling skills |
| Work Environment | Leads teams, manages projects, coordinates with stakeholders | Performs modeling tasks, develops simulations, analyzes data |
| Industry Usage | Oversees hydrodynamic projects in water resources, coastal engineering | Executes modeling work within similar projects, often under supervision |
The main difference is that the Manager Hydrodynamic Modeling oversees projects and teams, focusing on management and coordination, while the Hydrodynamic Modeler concentrates on technical modeling tasks and data analysis. Both roles require relevant engineering credentials, but the manager role emphasizes leadership and project oversight.

Piping Engineering & Analysis Synopsis
The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline performs evaluations for piping systems in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other codes as applicable to the specific evaluation being performed. The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline also performs the following specialty topics.
- Vibration monitoring and analysis to evaluate system operational vibrations associated with plant modifications and operating events, and to provide vibration prevention and mitigation solutions and designs.
- Evaluation of hydraulic transients, evaluation of piping systems for thermal stratification effects, operability evaluations, and qualification of piping for hydrodynamic loads.
- Pipe rupture evaluations, evaluation of pipe wall thinning due to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiological induced corrosion (MIC), and pipe flaw evaluations.
Position Specific Details
Provides senior-level technical support by performing a variety of engineering tasks such as preparing and reviewing calculations and designs of a complex nature. On a task basis, is responsible for the preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs that are responsive to project needs. Monitors the work of assigned staff to ensure requirements are met.
Senior-Level staff support engineering design projects with the following responsibilities:
- Prepares and reviews complex calculations.
- Reviews simple system/structural designs and prepares complex system designs.
- Prepares documented design input for drawing production (i.e., P&IDs and Master Diagrams). Reviews design input for simple system/structures. Performs engineering review of drawings.
- Prepares and reviews equipment specifications. Prepares material specifications.
- Prepares bid evaluations for systems and larger components. Prepares calculations to support economic evaluations. Solicits data from vendors.
- Prepares and reviews simple reports/studies.
- Develops single-discipline/simple-scope project budgets, schedules, and project work plans. Monitors own work to ensure it is completed within budget and on schedule.
- Provides single-discipline input to simple proposals.
- Uses effective written and oral communication skills to convey information to project team members and managers. Presents written technical information in a clear and concise manner in all deliverables.
- Prepares reports and deliverables that are clearly understood and meet client requirements. Communicates clearly in meetings with client, and summarizes meeting notes in a clear and timely manner.
This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.
QualificationsWe do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.
Required Skills and Experience:
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering, from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program, with an emphasis in solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis
- 5 or more years of relevant experience
- Must have knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes
- Knowledge of the design, selection, and application of pipe supporting elements
- Working knowledge of commercially available piping products and their application
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Valued but Not Required Skills and Experience:
- P.E. license
- Working knowledge of commercially available piping products and their application
- The ability to navigate a 3D CAD model
- Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software
- Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients
- Knowledge of pipe condition assessment
- Experience with ANSYS Workbench and Mechanical ADP
In this role, we expect people to be willing or able to lead others who use modern tools:
- You are expected to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
- Leaders in these roles often direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
- Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
- We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.
