Job description

Overview
The Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology (CJ&S) at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) is inviting applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position for the Master of Science in Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) online program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate-level online courses in homeland security. This position is not remote and faculty are expected to have a campus presence. The visiting appointment is a one-year renewable non-tenure-track position, and may be transitioned to a tenure-track position based on performance, departmental needs, and available funding. AUM has an official 4/3 teaching load. Faculty with ongoing scholarship and publication usually receive a course release for a normal 3/3 load. Internal funding to support scholarship is available. Service to the department is expected. A doctoral degree in criminal justice, homeland security, emergency management, sociology, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with prior experience teaching graduate courses are preferred.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for the Visiting Assistant Professor include, but are not limited to, teaching homeland security and possibly criminal justice courses asynchronously on Canvas, as well as participating in departmental, college, and university service activities on campus.
Qualifications
A doctoral degree in criminal justice, homeland security, emergency management, sociology, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with prior experience teaching graduate courses are preferred.
