Job Summary
The Lead Assistant Golf Professional serves as the primary support to the Senior Head Golf Professional in overseeing the daily golf operations at both Shark's Tooth and The Third. This position provides leadership to the professional staff, ensures exceptional member and guest experiences, and helps maintain the highest standards of service across two premier championship golf courses. The Lead Assistant plays a key role in tournament operations, merchandising, instruction, staff development, and daily operational execution while acting as the leader in the Head Golf Professional's absence.
Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Golf Operations
- Assist in the day-to-day management of golf operations at Shark's Tooth and The Third.
- Ensure exceptional member and guest service through consistent attention to detail.
- Oversee daily tee sheet management, pace of play, and player experience.
- Coordinate with outside operations and golf maintenance teams to ensure seamless daily operations.
- Serve as Manager on Duty when assigned.
Tournament & Event Management
- Assist in the planning and execution of member tournaments, club events, and outside outings.
- Prepare pairings, scorecards, hole assignments, cart signs, rules sheets, and tournament materials.
- Spearhead the Wednesday Men’s League and Saturday Men’s Game, two highly attended member events on a weekly basis
- Manage Golf Genius software for tournament setup, scoring, and results.
- Assist with event communications and post-event follow-up.
Staff Leadership
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Assistant Golf Professionals and support staff.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, and performance management.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture centered around hospitality and professionalism.
- Ensure staff consistently uphold club standards and service expectations.
Golf Shop & Merchandising
- Assist with golf shop merchandising, inventory management, and retail presentation.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering and receiving merchandise.
- Promote merchandise through member engagement and special events.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and inviting golf shop environment.
Member Experience
- Build strong relationships with members and guests.
- Provide professional golf instruction, club fitting, and player development opportunities.
- Resolve member concerns promptly and professionally.
- Promote club programming, instructional programs, and member engagement initiatives.
Administrative Duties
- Assist with budgeting, reporting, and operational planning.
- Maintain accurate tournament records and handicap administration.
- Ensure compliance with USGA, PGA of America, and club policies.
- Support communication between golf operations and other club departments.
- All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Class A PGA Professional preferred (or actively pursuing PGA Membership).
- College degree in Professional Golf Management or similar business degree preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in private club golf operations.
- Strong knowledge of Golf Genius, GHIN, point-of-sale systems, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for delivering world-class hospitality and exceptional member experiences.
