Summary
Upholstery Technician works in Upholstery reporting to the Upholstery Manager.
Position Overview
We are looking for a dependable Upholstery Technician to assist in the preparation and light construction of marine upholstery projects. This position focuses primarily on prepping materials, assembling seats and panels, and supporting upholsterers during the production process. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare seats, panels, and backing boards for upholsters.
  • Cut foam and other materials according to templates and measurements.
  • Assist with light construction and assembly of seats and panels.
  • Remove old upholstery, staples, and hardware from existing boat components.
  • Sand, clean, and prepare surfaces for new upholstery work.
  • Organize materials and stage components for upholsterers and the machine cutting materials.
  • Operate basic shop tools such as staple and glue guns, saws, drills, and sanders.
  • Assist upholsterers with installation and shop tasks as needed.
  • Conduct inspections and quality checks on assembled parts to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Collaborate with the supervisor to identify and resolve manufacturing and assembly issues.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety and 5S standards.
  • Accurately and promptly record completed work, materials used, and any issues encountered.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and product quality.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Basic experience with hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Ability to measure, cut, and assemble materials accurately.
  • Previous experience in mechanical assembly, preferably in marine, automotive, or related industries preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot minor issues.
  • Knowledge of boating components or marine systems a plus.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to Stand and Walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent needs to: climb, crawl, push, pull, lift, rotate arms at various angles, reach overhead, reach at or below shoulder level, gross and fine manipulation to operate hand and power tools, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, speaking, hearing, visually inspecting work, etc.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces within boat hulls and compartments.
  • Work in an environment with exposure to noise at levels not requiring ear protection, chemicals, and dust. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, and eye protection.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and respirators as required.
  • Work off a creeper.
  • Seasonal Temperatures may impact work environment.
