General Studies Office Student Employment
Salary: $12.00- $13.00
I. Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the General Studies Office Manager or designated supervisor, the General Studies Office Student Worker supports the daily administrative and operational functions of the General Studies Office.
This position provides hands-on experience in office administration, customer service, student support, and higher education operations. The student employee assists faculty, staff, current and prospective students, and visitors while helping maintain an organized, professional, and welcoming office environment that supports student success and academic excellence.
II. Duties and Responsibilities
โข Provide general office support, including answering telephones, greeting visitors, filing, copying, scanning, and organizing departmental records.
โข Assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors with general questions regarding General Studies programs, services, and College resources, referring complex inquiries to appropriate personnel.
โข Support office operations by preparing documents, processing forms, performing data entry, and maintaining accurate records.
โข Schedule appointments and assist with coordinating meetings, events, and office calendars as assigned.
โข Assist faculty and staff with special projects, reports, presentations, and departmental initiatives.
โข Create and update spreadsheets, documents, and other office materials using Microsoft Office applications.
โข Maintain office supplies and notify supervisors when inventory requires replenishment.
โข Assist with student communications, including phone calls, emails, mailings, and informational materials.
โข Support recruitment activities, orientation programs, registration events, and other student success initiatives.
โข Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the General Studies Office, reception area, and common workspaces.
โข Operate standard office equipment, including copiers, printers, scanners, and multi-line telephone systems.
โข Maintain confidentiality when handling student records, academic information, and other sensitive materials in accordance with FERPA and College policies.
โข Provide excellent customer service while representing the General Studies Office in a professional and courteous manner.
โข Successfully complete all required training related to customer service, FERPA, workplace safety, and other College policies.
โข Perform other duties as assigned by the General Studies Office Manager or designated supervisor.
III. Qualifications - Education, Experience, and Skills
โข Must be currently enrolled as a full-time Hocking College student.
โข Must be a second-year student.
โข Must meet federal requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
โข Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
โข Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
โข Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
โข Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
โข Strong customer service and public relations skills.
โข Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling student and departmental information.
โข Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
โข Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and effectively manage time in a fast-paced office environment.
โข Dependability, professionalism, initiative, and a positive attitude.
โข Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, copiers, printers, and scanners.
โข Ability to lift and move office supplies, files, and materials up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
โข Previous office, administrative, customer service, or student leadership experience is preferred but not required.
โข Willingness and ability to complete all required training and professional development assigned by the supervisor, Human Resources, or the College.
