Job description


The Manager - Epic Business Intelligence is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and oversight of Epic
analytics, business intelligence, and data warehousing initiatives across the organization. This role ensures that
Epic Cogito tools, including Caboodle, Clarity, Reporting Workbench, Radar, and SlicerDicer, are designed,
implemented, and optimized to support organizational decision-making, operational excellence, quality
improvement, regulatory reporting, and strategic initiatives. The Manager leads Business Intelligence Developers
and ETL Developers and serves as a key liaison between clinical, operational, financial, and technical
stakeholders. The role bridges enterprise data strategy and analytics delivery by translating business
requirements into reporting, dashboard, self-service analytics, and data integration solutions while ensuring data
integrity, performance, and scalability.
Responsibilities
  • Provides day-to-day leadership and operational oversight for Epic Business Intelligence and analytics
    functions. Establishes and maintains enterprise standards for analytics development, reporting governance, and data management. Ensures analytics solutions align with organizational priorities, enterprise strategy, and regulatory requirements. Maintains accountability for reporting accuracy, data quality, analytics performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversees the design, configuration, optimization, and ongoing administration of the Caboodle enterprise data warehouse. Establishes data architecture, data modeling, and reporting standards supporting organizational analytics needs. Ensures integration of Epic and non-Epic data sources within Caboodle. Leads decisions surrounding Caboodle development, enhancements, and long-term analytics strategy. Partners with analytics, informatics, and operational leaders to maximize utilization of enterprise data assets. Ensures compliance with Epic best practices and data governance standards.
  • Directly manages Business Intelligence Developers responsible for development and support of enterprise reporting solutions. Oversees design, build, testing, validation, deployment, and optimization of: Reporting Workbench reports, Radar dashboards, Cogito SQL reports, Caboodle reporting solutions, and Executive and operational dashboards. Ensures report standardization, data validation, and consistency of operational definitions across the organization. Establishes development methodologies, quality standards, and documentation requirements for analytics deliverables.
  • Leads and supervises ETL Developers responsible for enterprise data acquisition, transformation, and loading processes. Oversees design and maintenance of ETL workflows supporting Caboodle, Clarity, and external data sources. Ensures reliable, efficient, and scalable movement of data across the analytics ecosystem. Establishes standards for data integration architecture, error monitoring, reconciliation, and issue resolution. Partners with technical teams to support enterprise data strategy and advanced analytics initiatives.
  • Provides strategic and operational ownership of SlicerDicer functionality and governance. Oversees custom SlicerDicer build, configurations, filters, and data exploration capabilities. Promotes and expands adoption of self-service analytics throughout the organization. Ensures appropriate data access, user training, security controls, and governance practices. Collaborates with operational leaders to identify opportunities for enhanced self-service reporting and data exploration.
  • Establishes enterprise reporting governance standards and processes. Ensures consistent definitions,
    metadata management, report inventories, and reporting standards. Leads efforts to improve data integrity, analytics quality, and reporting reliability. Collaborates with Data Governance, Operational Leadership, Compliance, and Information Technology teams on enterprise data initiatives. Monitors analytics performance and develop improvement strategies supporting organizational goals.
  • Manages analytics-related changes through governance and change control processes. Oversees testing, validation, and deployment of Epic analytics upgrades, enhancements, and new functionality. Ensures proper documentation, testing protocols, and release management practices are maintained. Coordinates analytics readiness activities during Epic upgrades and optimization efforts.
  • Collaborates with Epic application teams, Informatics, IT Engineering, Clinical Leadership, Finance, Quality, and Operations teams. Serves as a strategic advisor regarding analytics capabilities, reporting requirements, and data utilization opportunities. Partners with executive leadership to support enterprise performance management and strategic decision-making. Serves as an escalation point for complex analytics, reporting, and data-related issues.
  • Maintains responsibility for department's operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Manages team members, which includes orientation, development and evaluation of team members, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing, and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates team member's performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.
  • Maintains responsibility for the fiscal management of department and assures proper utilization of
    organization's financial resources.
  • Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
  • Assists in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.

Qualifications
  • 5 years of experience supporting Epic or EHR analytics, business intelligence, data
    warehousing, or enterprise reporting environments, required.
  • 1 year leadership experience managing analytics, reporting, or technical teams, required.
  • 1 year of experience supporting Caboodle, Clarity, SlicerDicer, Reporting Workbench, and/or
    Radar platforms, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience leading healthcare analytics or business intelligence teams, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience supporting enterprise data warehouse environments, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience supporting executive dashboards and strategic reporting initiatives, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data analytics, health informatics, information systems, or other related field, required.
  • Epic certification in Cogito, Caboodle, Clarity Data Model or Cogito Tools Administration and/or ability to attain Epic certification(s) in assigned module(s) within a defined timeframe determined at time of hire, required.

As part of our selection process, candidates being considered for this position will be required to complete a Sphinx Assessment, which is used to evaluate job-related competencies and determine overall suitability for the role. Successful completion of the assessment is a required component of the hiring process.
This position also requires active participation in various phases of the Epic application lifecycle, including but not limited to implementation, go-live support, stabilization, optimization, and system upgrades. Candidates must be willing and able to accommodate the demands associated with these activities, which may include:
  • Working additional hours outside of regularly scheduled business hours, including evenings and weekends, as project needs dictate.
  • Participating in on-site go-live and support activities across multiple organizational locations.
  • Traveling occasionally for Epic training, certification, project meetings, or other work-related purposes, including travel outside of the state.
  • Traveling between organizational facilities to provide operational, project, and end-user support.
