Position Overview:

American Outdoor Brands was founded with a commitment to innovation and the desire to provide products that support the everyday marksman, defender, adventurer, and harvester. AOB is recognized for our industry leading product development capabilities and innovative product design.

The Electrical Engineer II (EE II) plays an important role in new product development at AOB by executing on the design and development of electronic assemblies and embedded firmware for new products and/or improvements to existing products. The EE II will work closely with mechanical engineers and product designers to integrate circuit board assemblies and electronic components into physical products and with suppliers to optimize component selection and design for manufacturing. In addition, the EE II may develop connected products alongside our mobile application development team and work with quality engineers to develop test plans and ensure high quality production. A successful candidate is self-motivated, enjoys working in a collaborative environment, have excellent communication skills, and a passion for the outdoors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, analysis, and evaluation of projects, ensuring they align with sound engineering principles, business standards, practices, procedures, and specific product or program requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Designers and Engineers to seamlessly integrate PCBAs into custom housings, mechatronic systems, and end products.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in software and embedded firmware design, enhancing product functionality and user experience.
  • Design electronic circuitry for diverse products including lights, lasers, measurement equipment, controllers, and connected devices.
  • Manage the end-to-end development of PCB designs, ensuring a smooth transition from concept to manufacturing.
  • Proactively identify and procure all necessary components and equipment essential for the product design process.
  • Design and construct fixtures tailored for prototype evaluation and testing.
  • Champion innovation across all product stages, from existing products to conceptual phases.
  • Contribute to new product brainstorming sessions, actively participating in the conception and definition of innovative products.
  • Exhibit the ability to work autonomously, leveraging advanced techniques, theories, and processes to deliver exceptional results.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage product standards and test instructions, ensuring compliance with industry benchmarks.
  • Generate detailed product specifications and collaborate on their development when needed.

Education and Experience:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience preferred

Competencies and Skills:

  • A high degree of project management proficiency in a development environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a technical lead in the department for other engineering staff and technicians.
  • An ability to determine and implement product cost reduction programs.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles (DFMEA, DVP&R, and etc…)
  • Strong knowledge of industry and mil standards i.e., ANSI, IEEE, FDA.
  • Working knowledge in Data Acquisition equipment and principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects at the same time with accelerated timelines.
  • Knowledgeable in use of electronics troubleshooting and SMT rework equipment.
  • Experience with Embedded Firmware Development (EFD) in Assembly, C and/or C++ is desired.
  • Experience with programming in the Windows Operating environment.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required and must be solution driven with the ability to generate creative/innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative development environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Firearms experience desired.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Some work is required "off-hours" for business meetings/company events.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer.
  • Ability to move about facility on regular basis to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, or walking.
  • Visual and hearing acuity.

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:
