    Position Summary: The Distribution Center Manager is responsible for leading all day-to-day operations within the distribution center, including receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing, sortation, shipping, inventory control, returns, carrier coordination, and facility workflow. This role ensures the distribution center operates safely, efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with company policies, customer expectations, and operational goals.

    This position provides leadership to warehouse associates, leads, and/or supervisory staff while partnering cross-functionally with Customer Service, Planning, Purchasing, Transportation, and other business partners to support order fulfillment, inventory accuracy, service levels, and continuous improvement.

    Primary responsibilities:

    In this role you will be required to…

    Distribution Center Leadership & People Management

    • Lead daily distribution center operations and ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on time.
    • Interview, select, onboard, train, coach, and develop warehouse associates, leads, and supervisory staff.
    • Set expectations for productivity, quality, attendance, safety, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
    • Provide performance feedback, address employee concerns, and support accountability in partnership with Human Resources and senior leadership.
    • Ensure appropriate staffing, labor planning, and workflow coverage based on volume, service levels, and business priorities.

    Operational Execution: Picking, Packing, Sortation, Shipping & Receiving

    • Oversee receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing, sortation, staging, shipping, returns, and related distribution activities.
    • Direct the flow of orders and packages from release through shipment to ensure accurate and timely customer fulfillment.
    • Ensure orders are picked, packed, labeled, sorted, staged, routed, and shipped according to customer requirements, carrier requirements, and internal SOPs.
    • Monitor inbound and outbound freight activity, including parcel, LTL, freight, and carrier pickups/deliveries.
    • Resolve escalated issues related to shipped, delayed, short, damaged, or misrouted orders.

    Inventory Control & WMS Accuracy

    • Oversee inventory control processes, including stock control, cycle counting, inventory reconciliation, bin/location accuracy, put-away, replenishment, and discrepancy resolution.
    • Ensure WMS and related systems are used accurately to support receiving, picking, packing, shipping, inventory adjustments, and reporting.
    • Analyze inventory, order flow, and fulfillment data to improve accuracy, reduce errors, and optimize service.
    • Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve inventory, order, ASN, pick slip, bill of lading, labeling, or customer requirement issues.

    Carrier, Vendor & Customer Support

    • Liaise with carriers, suppliers, transportation partners, internal customers, and business partners to support inbound and outbound logistics.
    • Manage critical shipping and receiving documentation, including ASNs, pick slips, bills of lading, freight records, labels, barcodes, and related documentation.
    • Ensure carrier/service-level requirements are followed and escalate transportation or logistics concerns as appropriate.
    • Support customer satisfaction by ensuring accurate order fulfillment, timely shipping, and responsive issue resolution.

    Safety, Compliance & Facility Standards

    • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA expectations, equipment standards, and required training.
    • Ensure proper use of powered industrial equipment, warehouse tools, storage methods, and material-handling practices.
    • Maintain facility organization, housekeeping, aisle clearance, storage integrity, and safe warehouse flow.
    • Ensure warehouse operations follow company policies, regulatory expectations, and operational standards.

    Performance Management & Continuous Improvement

    • Track and manage key performance indicators such as productivity, order accuracy, shipping timeliness, inventory accuracy, safety, quality, and labor efficiency.
    • Identify bottlenecks, workflow constraints, recurring errors, and process gaps; implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Evaluate equipment, materials, staffing levels, layouts, and workflows needed to load, unload, move, store, pick, pack, sort, and ship materials efficiently.
    • Use software tools and operational reporting to track, prioritize, route, and monitor orders and warehouse performance.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional managers to improve processes, reduce waste, optimize labor, and strengthen the customer experience.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong knowledge of distribution center operations, including receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing, sortation, shipping, returns, and inventory control.
    • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing, coaching, developing, and holding teams accountable.
    • Strong working knowledge of WMS/ERP systems; experience with Dynamics 365 WMS preferred.
    • Solid understanding of parcel, LTL, freight, carrier routing, bills of lading, ASNs, labeling requirements, and shipping documentation.
    • Ability to analyze operational data, inventory trends, labor needs, service levels, and performance metrics.
    • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve escalated operational, customer, carrier, inventory, and order issues.
    • High attention to detail and accuracy, especially related to inventory control, order fulfillment, labeling, documentation, and customer requirements.
    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with associates, supervisors, carriers, suppliers, internal departments, and senior leadership.
    • Knowledge of space utilization, storage methods, warehouse layout, slotting, equipment needs, and material flow.
    • Ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-volume distribution environment while balancing safety, quality, service, and cost.

    Job Requirements:

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business, or related field preferred.
    • 7+ years of warehouse, distribution, logistics, fulfillment, or related operations experience preferred.
    • 3+ years of leadership or management experience in a warehouse, distribution center, fulfillment, manufacturing, or logistics environment preferred.
    • Experience managing picking, packing, sortation, shipping, receiving, inventory control, and carrier-related workflows required.
    • Experience with WMS/ERP systems required; Dynamics 365 WMS experience preferred.
    • Prior experience with parcel, LTL/freight carriers, international shipping, or high-volume distribution strongly preferred
    • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage priorities, resolve escalated issues, and improve operational performance.

    Essential Functions/Physical Demands:

    • Positional: Frequent sitting, standing, and walking throughout the distribution center; occasional driving as required for business needs; regular time spent in office, warehouse, shipping, receiving, and operational areas.
    • Gross Mobility: Rare climbing or crawling; occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching; frequent reaching, handling, and movement through warehouse aisles, docks, staging areas, and workstations.
    • Sensory: Frequent talking and listening to communicate with associates, leadership, carriers, vendors, and cross-functional partners; frequent near and midrange visual acuity for reviewing labels, WMS screens, reports, shipping documents, inventory records, and warehouse activity; occasional depth perception and field of vision required when walking through warehouse areas or working near equipment.
    • Ability to lift or move boxes/materials up to 50 lbs. as needed.
    • Ability to work in a distribution center environment with exposure to warehouse equipment, dock activity, seasonal temperature changes, and high-volume operational demands.
