Job description

We seek an Underwriter with a demonstrated track record of reviewing, analyzing, and decisioning BPL mortgage loan files to join our existing underwriting team.  In this role, the Underwriter joins a team front line for our deal assessment and risk analysis—including but not limited to: credit assessment, borrower entity compliance, guarantor experience verification, data validation, and collateral analysis.  TVC offers specialized programs for real estate investor clients requires an understanding of multiple program guidelines.  The Underwriter must be able to keenly understand and reference guideline differences and apply appropriate guidelines to individual clients and loans.  If you possess exceptional attention to detail, the ability to make sound and independent decisions, and the ability to self-manage a personal pipeline, we want you on our team.  You should a have specific knowledge of the principal approaches to underwriting; Ideal candidates will have direct experience in the business purpose loan sector.  You will work as part of a highly curated team responsible for development and maintenance of TVC’s underwriting infrastructure and collaborating with Temple View Capital’s Credit Risk, Valuations, Rehab/Construction, Legal, Sales/Processing, and Closing Departments.

Responsibilities / Essential Job Duties

Evaluate/underwrite individual BPL mortgage loan files for qualification against various product guidelines

Support a quality borrower/client experience using business history, appraisals, credit reports, asset statements, entity documentation and title documents, to accurately and quickly decision files

Work closely with our processing team to review and clear all underwriting conditions to obtain a clear to close

Push a daily pipeline of working files though origination milestones to completion

Act as a resource of underwriting expertise to support our other TVC departments, particularly Sales, Processing, and Valuations teams

Develop a strong working knowledge of all TVC loan programs and guidelines

Assess LTV’s and other relevant ratios as they relate to deal analysis

Perform common sense research related to collateral value, client performance history, or other atypical scenarios as they arise

Collaborate with all of TVC’s team members as needed to make sound business decisions for every client

Perform other duties as assigned to contribute to a best in class client experience

Competencies/Skills

Ability to meet established productivity standards while maintaining high quality file reviews

Multi-tasking proficiency to manage immediate tasks along with a pipeline of various file types

Excellent organization and computer skills, strong working knowledge of MS office (particularly Excel)

Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work efficiently and collaboratively with other departments

Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail

Ability to exercise sound, independent judgement, reliable, and strong team player

Comfortable working under pressure to balance production timelines with individual client needs

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree preferred; Will also consider candidates with exceptional BPL mortgage experience

Two to five years’ experience as a residential mortgage underwriter preferred, but not required; may be offset by education and applicable training and experience

Knowledge of mortgage underwriting concepts, best practices, and procedures
