Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Signal/Train Control Engineering Manager to join our Global Rail Systems team in Mississauga, Ontario location.

In this role the ideal candidate is a results-driven engineering professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills.   Key for this role will be the ability to work well in a team environment and develop/mentor staff.  Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of quality, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Develop and manage major technical programs including control of scope, schedule and budget
  • Produce system designs from feasibility through Issue for Construction and eventually supporting through testing and commissioning of the system
  • Organize, manage, and inspire staff to achieve program objectives
  • Manage owner and stakeholder interests
  • Present ideas, concepts and details to owners, contractors, and others.
  • Coordinate and build partnerships both internally with HATCH and externally with partners to achieve goals
  • Review work of others and provide detailed and constructive commentary in a professional setting
  • Work with others to promote HATCH and develop opportunities for new work
  • Lead regional Signal team to develop training, competency management schemes, quality documents and process, and technology improvements/innovations

You bring to the role:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline with Master's or PhD preferred    
  • Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain one in 6 months.
  • IRSE license strongly preferred
  • Ten (10) years of experience in the rail signaling industry globally with at least two years of non-sales related Canadian experience preferred
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a senior technical role with major rail supplier
  • Five (5) or more years of multidisciplinary project experience such as planning, project management of multidisciplinary project(s)
  • Experience with freight rail/mainline rail, commuter rail, metro and LRT signaling
  • Detailed knowledge of and experience with the design and implementation of relay based track circuits, ATC, ATP, ATO, ETCS/ERTMS or PTC, grade crossings and/or CBTC signaling including but not limited to modeling and simulations, preliminary design, detailed design, RAMS, programming, field testing, and V&V.
  • Preferred experience with multi-vendor equipment
  • Demonstrable experience in specification development, engineering procedure development, standards development, financial management, estimating, etc  
  • Knowledge of and experience with various operating rules
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written, including technical writing) is required. 
  • Demonstrable experience in training, mentoring and developing staff and educating clients in all aspects of signal/systems engineering

The following skills/experience is a plus:

  • CAD tools (AutoCAD/MicroStation), BIM tools (Civil 3D and REVIT)
  • Analysis and modeling tools such as SATS, PROVER, VitalSim, TrainOps
  • Experience in field testing and integration
  • Knowledge of current Cyber Security practices
  • Certified Systems Engineering Professional
  • Project management experience
