Job description

This role is a working manager position, accountable for new product development and technical support for a group of electrical products with industry established brands. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on-take-charge person who has a passion for innovative technology. They will lead a motivated group of electrical engineers and be willing to participate in strategic decision making, skilled employee development and passionate team engagement.

Primary Purpose of Position: Oversee and manage the activities of the electrical engineering group and design and develop electronics and electrical devices. This person is involved with all aspects of the development cycle, from resourcing to budgeting and through launch.

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

  • Managing, leading and training a team of electrical engineers.
  • Scheduling engineering resources and projects.
  • Help transform and standardize the project launch methodology to ensure a timely and regimented release process.
  • Assist with component obsolescence issues and help lead a VAVE process.
  • Engage with other departments to help define product roadmaps, align design strategy and set project priorities.
  • Creating electrical controls and participating in the design of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Design PCBs and unique LED based illumination sources.
  • Design industrial wiring cabinets and electro-mechanical assemblies that are required to have a service life of 5+ years.
  • Design test fixtures and test procedures to ensure our products are high quality and easy to manufacture.
  • Assist in product compliance and quality testing to meet global standards and regulations.
  • Occasional (up to 20%) travel (domestic and international)
  • Comfortable working in, as well as learning, multiple engineering and scientific disciplines as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field, preferably electronics engineering, electrical engineering or computer engineering, with 7-10 years of experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing and leading other engineers.
  • Knowledge of PCB design and layout.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills of mixed systems and a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Hands on PCB assembly and rework experience with SMT and TH.
  • Basic SolidWorks skills including electrical routing are preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of optics, illumination and digital imaging.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be highly motivated and demonstrate a passion for electronics and electrical design.
  • Mature, self-directed and responsible.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
  • Ability to work in office and manufacturing/production environments.

Work Environment

This position operates in both office and manufacturing environments. Exposure to noise and varying temperatures may occur while on the production floor.
