WHO are we looking for?

CAPTRUST is seeking an Analytics Engineer to design, build, and maintain analytics-ready data models that enable trusted reporting, self-service analytics, and downstream decision-making across the firm. This role owns the dbt analytics transformation layer and dbt project stewardship, and partners with Data Engineering on upstream pipelines and data shaping to ensure analytics-ready inputs. This role serves as the connective tissue between raw data engineering outputs and business-facing analytics by translating business concepts into well-modeled, well-documented dbt assets. This position is ideal for a data professional with deep dbt expertise, strong SQL skills, and a passion for data modeling who can partner closely with Data Engineers, Data Analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable analytical data products.

  • Owns end-to-end stewardship of the dbt project, including model organization, naming conventions, testing strategy, documentation standards, and ongoing refactoring to keep the project healthy and scalable
  • Owns the analytics transformation layer and its production reliability, including build/deploy routines, dependency management, and monitoring/triage of model and test failures in partnership with Data Engineering
  • Owns the definition and implementation of analytics-ready business logic (e.g., conformed dimensions, facts, and shared metrics) and drives upstream data shaping requirements with Data Engineers to ensure source data supports agreed analytical needs
  • Design, build, and maintain analytics-ready data models in dbt that translate business requirements into clear, performant, and trusted analytical structures
  • Collaborate with Data Quality Analysts to embed data quality rules, validation logic, and testing directly into dbt models
  • Apply dimensional and analytical modeling best practices (e.g., star schemas, facts and dimensions, grain alignment) to support reporting and metrics consistency
  • Work with business stakeholders and data analysts to understand reporting needs and codify logic in reusable models
  • Own dbt documentation quality and completeness, including model descriptions, lineage, business context, and assumptions, to support discovery and trust
  • Support the evolution of shared metric definitions in partnership with semantic and governance functions, ensuring consistency across analytics and reporting
  • Participate in analytics development processes, including code reviews, testing, and deployment workflows

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, computer science, information systems, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in analytics engineering, business intelligence, data engineering, or a closely related role.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, including complex transformations, aggregations, and windowing logic.
  • Strong hands-on experience with dbt, including model development, refactoring, documentation, sources, and tests.
  • Solid understanding of analytical data modeling concepts and best practices.
  • Ability to translate business concepts into structured, analytics-ready data models.
  •  Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain data logic in business terms.

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

  • Experience working in a modern analytics stack (e.g., cloud data warehouse, dbt, BI tools).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI semantic models, or similar analytics platforms.
  • Experience partnering closely with Data Engineers and Data Quality roles in a team-based analytics delivery model.
  • Exposure to data governance concepts such as definitions, lineage, stewardship, and certified metrics.
  • Comfort operating in environments with evolving requirements and helping bring clarity through modeling standards
  •  High standard of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
