Together, these teams help us make the best possible decisions for our airline, to run our business with integrity, ensuring our airline operates lawfully and ethically, creating a company we are all proud to work for.
Job Overview and Responsibilities
The Crew Security Compliance Manager oversees regulatory compliance, training, and operational procedures related to crew security mandates, collaborates with internal departments and labor unions, develops policies and training programs, monitors compliance risks, and maintains communication with regulatory bodies and unions to ensure adherence to security requirements in the aviation sector. The position works closely with internal and external work groups and labor unions to enhance the company's Security Management System (SeMS) through review of complex and time sensitive security information while incurring minimal negative operational impact.
This position is based at our Chicago HQ and is considered hybrid.
  • Crew Security Compliance:
    • Prioritize and implement security measures to support Inflight and Flight Operations ensuring adherence to mandates
    • Develop policies and procedures to achieve compliance with Inflight and Flight Operations security mandates
    • May consult with Inflight and Flight Operations to assess impact of security mandates, and author response to regulators
    • Educate regulators about operational realities to facilitate their publication of effective, reasonable, proportionate, and timely mandates
    • Provide guidance and interpretation of mandates and direction to company's domestic and international domiciles, Flight Ops and Inflight
    • Responsible for ongoing communication and support to employee labor union security committees (ALPA, AFA, PAFCA)
    • Provide guidance and direction to teams and projects impacting security measures related to Crew Security mandates
    • Promote cross-functional collaboration and support between Corporate Security, internal and external partners
    • Conduct research and support the dissemination of geopolitical security assessments for review
    • Partner with internal and external departments to develop compliance training and measurement tools
    • Assess, identify, and measure compliance risk and consult with affected departments to mitigate exposure
    • Oversee maintenance of compliance records and compliance initiatives and onsite reviews
    • Monitor industry, regulatory, and global developments to identify areas of vulnerability to mitigate risk
    • Develop and maintain department's knowledge of regulations to facilitate identification of patterns of non-compliance
    • Publish reports that highlight performance, successes, failures, and exposure
    • Author for approval, correspondence with regulators, including mitigation of proposed penalties
  • Union Collaboration:
    • Prepare materials and meet monthly with ALPA, AFA, and PAFCA MEC Safety/Security representatives individually to review security events and incidents and discuss upcoming security mandates
    • Meet quarterly with all three unions together to cover the same topics, and meet quarterly with
    • Flight Operations, Inflight, and Dispatch management to review union-discussed items
    • Meet weekly with union and management representatives, along with Global Procurement and
    • Hotel Operations teams, to review and action crew hotel and transportation security reports
    • Develop and ensure all required non-disclosure agreements are completed and signed
  • Training: Develop and gain TSA approval for the annual crew training program

Qualifications
What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing complex enterprise-wide security, risk management, or compliance programs
  • Knowledge of aviation security principles, regulations, and requirements, including TSA, FAA, ICAO, host-country regulations, Known Crewmember (KCM) programs, layover security, security reporting, and Sensitive Security Information (SSI) handling
  • Knowledge of airline operations, including Flight Operations, Inflight, Dispatch, Airport Operations, Network Operations Center (NOC) functions, and crew security risk management practices
  • Experience assessing security risks, investigating incidents, preserving evidence, managing compliance programs, and coordinating crisis response activities
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to evaluate large volumes of information, identify emerging security threats and trends, and develop actionable recommendations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare security briefings, executive reports, regulatory correspondence, and communicate complex security information to diverse audiences
  • Ability to collaborate and influence across all organizational levels and effectively partner with labor unions, federal agencies, airport authorities, law enforcement, and other security stakeholders
  • Knowledge of crew security risk management practices, including hotel, ground transportation, and layover security programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop security briefings, alerts, executive reports, and effectively communicate with flight crews, leadership, law enforcement, regulators, labor unions, and external partners
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
