About UN-WASTE
UN-WASTE is a New Jersey-based food waste recycling company dedicated to diverting food scraps from landfills and building a more sustainable future through community engagement, organics recycling, and waste reduction education.
We are seeking an energetic, reliable, and community-minded Market & Sustainability Associate to represent UN-WASTE at the West Windsor Community Farmers' Market and help grow our sustainability programs.
Position Summary
The Market & Sustainability Associate serves as the face of UN-WASTE at the market, managing our organics recycling drop-off program, educating residents about food waste recycling, promoting sustainability initiatives, and supporting sales of sustainable products and services.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys interacting with people, is passionate about environmental stewardship, and is comfortable working independently in an outdoor market setting.
Responsibilities
- Load, unload, transport, and set up market equipment, tables, tents, products, and collection buckets, including items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Transport market materials between Howell, NJ and the West Windsor Community Farmers' Market
- Set up and break down the UN-WASTE market booth, displays, and equipment
- Manage the Organics Recycling Drop-Off Program, including accepting, weighing, and recording materials
- Assist customers and answer questions about food waste recycling and sustainability
- Promote and sell UN-WASTE residential organics recycling services
- Promote and sell Zero Waste Bags and other sustainable products
- Educate market patrons on waste reduction, composting, recycling, and sustainability practices
- Conduct customer surveys and gather community feedback
- Create photo and video content for UN-WASTE social media channels
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming booth space
- Represent UN-WASTE professionally with customers, vendors, and community partners
Qualifications
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Interest in sustainability, environmental issues, or community engagement
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently
- Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
- Social media experience is a plus
Schedule
- Saturdays during market season
- Typical shift runs from 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Approximately 9 hours per market day, including setup, operation, and breakdown
- Additional opportunities for special events and sustainability programs may be available
Compensation
- $18.00 - 20.00 per hour
- W-2 Employee Classification
- Bi-weekly direct deposit
