TheCAPEX Commodity Manager - North Americais a member of the North America Non-Raw Materials (NRM or Indirect) Purchasing Organization reporting to the Director of NRM Purchasing. The role is responsible forleading the strategic sourcing, supplier management, negotiation, and execution support of capital expenditure projects across the North American region. This role manages procurement activities for major equipment, manufacturing machinery, construction, engineering services, installation, commissioning, automation systems, infrastructure, and plant expansion projects.
The position will partner closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Finance, Legal, HSE, Quality, Plant Leadership and Global Procurement to ensure CAPEX projects are sourced competitively, contracted appropriately, delivered on time, and aligned with business, technical, financial, and compliance requirements.
The CAPEX Commodity Manager will develop and execute regional sourcing strategies, manage supplier relationships, support project teams from concept through commissioning, and drive cost savings, risk mitigation, standardization, and supplier performance across the CAPEX portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
- Develop and execute North America CAPEX sourcing strategies aligned with business growth, manufacturing expansion, modernization, and cost reductionobjectives.
- Manage sourcing activities for capital equipment, construction services, engineering services, installation, automation, fabrication, utilities, infrastructure, and plant improvement projects.
- Build andmaintainsupplier relationships tosupportcomplex manufacturing and industrial CAPEX requirements.
- Identifyopportunities for supplier consolidation, standardization, global/regional leverage, and total cost of ownership improvements.
- Lead competitive bid events including RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, technical-commercial evaluations, auctions, supplier interviews, and award recommendations.
- Partner with global procurement where applicable to align specifications, supplier strategies, contract terms, and preferred vendors.
Project Procurement Execution
- Support CAPEX projects from early planning and budgeting through supplierselection, contract award, delivery, installation, and project closeout.
- Participate in project charter development,scopedefinition, sourcing timelines, and procurement risk assessments.
- Ensure supplier quotations include clear commercial terms, technical scope, delivery milestones, warranty provisions, installation requirements, and service expectations.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Operations tovalidatetechnical requirements and ensure comparable supplier proposals.
- Manage procurement milestones to support project schedules and avoid delays in equipment delivery, installation, or commissioning.
- Track purchase order issuance, supplier commitments, delivery schedules, and commercial changes throughout the project lifecycle.
Contracting & Risk Management
- Lead commercial negotiations for major CAPEX agreements, including equipment purchases, construction contracts, installation services, engineering agreements, and service packages.
- Negotiate key contractual protections including payment terms, milestones, delivery commitments, liquidated damages, warranties, performance guarantees, indemnities, insurance, limitation of liability, change order controls, and termination rights.
- Partner with Legal, Finance, Risk Management, and HSEto ensure contractscomply withcompany policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support development and use of standard contract templates, terms and conditions, bid packages, and supplier qualification documents.
- Identifyand mitigate project risks related to cost escalation, schedule slippage, supplier financial health, safety performance, import/export constraints, and technical non-performance.
Supplier Relationship & Performance Management
- Develop strategic relationships with key CAPEX suppliers, OEMs, contractors, integrators, engineering firms, and construction partners.
- Conduct supplier business reviews focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, innovation, technical capability, and project execution.
- Maintain supplier scorecards and performance metrics for major capital project suppliers.
- Resolve supplier-related issues including commercial disputes, late deliveries, scope gaps, quality concerns, warranty claims, and change order disagreements.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities through site visits, audits, references, financial reviews, safety reviews, and technical assessments.
- Support development of preferred supplier panels for recurring CAPEX categories.
Financial & Compliance Responsibilities
- Deliver measurable cost savings, cost avoidance, cash flow improvements, and working capital benefits through effective sourcing and negotiation.
- Supportaccurateproject budgeting by providing market intelligence, supplier cost benchmarks, and sourcing input.
- Ensure procurement activitycomplies withinternal approval policies, delegation of authority, audit requirements, and capital expenditure governance.
- Drive compliance requirements and ensure suppliers are properly onboarded prior to project execution.
- Maintain complete sourcing documentation, bid evaluations, award justifications, contracts, and approval records.
- Support audits related to CAPEX procurement, supplierselection, contract compliance, and projectspend.
The CAPEX Commodity Manager may support sourcing and supplier management across categories including:

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Finance, Operations Management, or related field.
5+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, project management, engineering procurement, or CAPEX procurement.
Experience supporting capital projects in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, infrastructure, or engineering environment.
Strong negotiation skills with experience managing complex supplier agreements and commercial terms.
Understanding ofproject lifecycle management, including budgeting, sourcing, contracting, delivery, installation, commissioning, and closeout.
Ability to read and interpret technical scopes of work, bid packages, supplier proposals, and commercial contracts.
Strong analytical skills with ability to evaluate cost breakdowns, total cost of ownership, payment milestones, and supplier risk.
Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Finance, Legal, EHS, Maintenance, and plant teams.
